Best Deal Ever

Probably my best deal ever was

Not one but 3 guns. All of them were like new condition. I went to see a gut about a Marlin Cowboy in 45 Colt for $400. I snapped it up. While I was there he showed me 3 other guns that he needed to sell and asked me if I was interested. There were two Vaqueros and a Rossi rifle in 44-40. There was also a bunch of bullets cases etc. I didn't have any money on me but we made a deal on theVaquero in 45 colt for $250. I said I would be back in two weeks. I called him a day or so before driving down and he "made me an offer I couldn't refuse" He sold me everything for $600. I sold the two pistols for $325 each in a week. I sold the rifle and the other stuff as a package for $350. I also bought a Winchester model 70 with ascope for $265, that is what the guy need for his car payment. I made out very well on that one. I also bought a Swedish mauser for a hundre bucks. I sold that one several years later for $300 and wish I hadn't.

Many, many years ago the local Walmart had the tags on the single barrel shotgun (79.00) and a Winchester heavy barrel model 70 (hundreds of dollars) switched. I told them of this problem on mulitple occassions and they never corrected the situation. I finally just bought the Model 70.

Brand New Maverick 88 12GA Pump, 18" Barrel, Pistol Grip and Regular Synthetic Stock $120.

XD 45 Compact $350, One 13 Round Mag. Was Given another 13 rounder and a 10 rounder. Traded the 10 for a 13 even up and am happy. Looked like less that 100 rounds through it.

XD 40 V10 $340, Both Mags, XD Gear, Case, Papers, less than a box of ammo through it.

Franchi AL-48 12ga.

Bought this off one of my co-workers for $100 back in '99. Asked him what he wanted for it. Like new no marks....Still have it..

Was given a Grendel P-30 with original box and 2 mags that was "broken." Put in a new mag release spring and VWALA got over $500 dollars out of it on GB... perhaps could have gotten more, but not to shabby in my opinion.

MY Arisaka type 38 was a pretty good deal at FREE. Granted, it was a birthday gift from my stepdad, who inherited it from his dad, who brought it back from the PTO in WWII. Sadly, he ground the Chysanthrmum down on the receiver. Still, it's a nice looking gun, fun to shoot when I happen to find 6.5mm Japanese ammo for it.

I'm going with a 3 way tie.

In the early 90s I bought an S&W 629 Classic (8-3/8") with 38 rounds of ammo and a shoulder holster for $400. Apparently 2 cylinders full were enough for the owner and he had put it away for some time before deciding he should sell it. I still have it and use it for deer hunting.

Last fall I picked up a very lightly used Sig 226 with night sights and all corresponding accessories and papers for $520 shipped. I called Sig and it tuns out that it was manufactured just 5 months prior. It has been flawless so far.

Yesterday (!) I stopped by the local farm store to buy some gloves and they are clearing out all of their muzzle loaders at half price. So I grabbed one for $80 plus tax. Nothing fancy but I couldn't pass it up. My son uses one just like it and has killed 3 deer with it since he got it 3 yrs ago, good sights, break open with 209 ignition. I like it more than my fancy Knight.

Mint condition Norinco SKS in February of 09 for $200 at a pawn shop. The asking price was only $225 on a whim I asked if they would take $200 out the door and they agreed.

welldoya

The guy I bought the Marlin 39A from actually had two. I told him I would take both and he thought about it but decided to keep one.
I bought a 4" Python about 3 years ago for $500. Nice shape.
Bought a Ruger Single Six (1973) with both cylinders in 98% condition at a yard sale for $150. This was about 6 years ago. Came with a nice rug too.
Probably 15 years ago, I stopped by a yard sale. The guy really didn't have anything I was interested in. Seems like I was wearing a camo shirt or something because he asked me if I was a hunter. I told him I was. He said he had a shotgun stolen and had an extra barrel and a case for it and asked if I was interested. I told him to bring it out.
He brought out one of those nice Browning luggage style takedown cases with the faux fur inside and a barrel for a B-80 I believe. I asked him how much and he said $60 for both. SOLD !

Guess I should've bought that Johnson for $750 back in the late `80's, early `90's.

About 15yrs ago I was in a gun shop when a guy brought in a minty S&W model 18 that he wanted to trade against a Python. They offered him $125 for it. He declined, I followed him out the door and paid him $200 for it. Still have it.

Bought a like new Ruger MKII Government Competition model with a 2x scope, case and extra magazines for $200 from a coworker. A year later I traded it for $350 worth of reloading equipment and supplies.

S&W Model 6906 9mm w/three mags, all with finger extension. $250. Replaced recoil spring, runs like a top.

S&W Model 10 with houge grips, $300. Gun is in immaculate shape.

Ruger Model 77 (gen1) .270 w/Redfield 2-7 fer about $300-$350. Not even a whole box of shells through it. My dad has one in 7x57 and I loved it, so i jumped on it. I'd have probably fell over my own feet if I walked.

Mossberg Model 695 bolt action slug gun. Like $200 or so. Immaculately accurate. I tend to loan it to family members and they always shoot stuff with it.

When you work in a gun store you get some terrific deals. I had a guy give me a nearly new 10/22. We have a $200 minimum for consignment guns and it appraised just under that. So he just left it and the manager gave it to me. :D

As far as retail buys go, I once got a "Ted Williams" marked Voere 2117 semiauto 22 worth about $400 for $99 because it was tagged as a "Sears 22".

But the all time best was:

Winchester Model 52B, no rust, no deill & tapped holes all orginal with all thwe papers and Magazines, perfect stock with hand guard, only thing it didn't have was the orginal box. $50.00

30 years ago - Paid 55.00 dollars for a mint Colt lightweight .38 special as the guy was leaving the state.

28 years ago - Paid 2.00 [ yes = TWO DOLLARS ] for a Remington 788 in 6 MM.still have it and it came with 6 boxes of ammo.

must be on the wrong side of the atonement ledger, never have made a killer deal

but my buddies have
traded a (call it bad luck of the draw) common off-shelf NIB Ruger 10/22 that wouldn't keep 'em in 5" at 25 yards, for a Miroku made Winchester 9422M Legacy mint that will put 'em all in 2" at 100 yards all day long, easy, open sights
bought a mint Colt Government 380acp at a gun show for $300 (not the maybe $800 you might see on Gunbroker), flawless

I did pick up a mint k-48 for ~$400 once, flawless, everything to love, but not in the same class of above "deals"

Bought a Bersa Thunder 380 for 200 and sold for 225.
Bought a mint condition nickel 4" Smith 29-2 with the wooden factory box and papers for 700 (box needs minor attention).
Dan Wesson PM7 for 745.
Smith 18-3 for 500.

5 way tie:

1. Few years back, a retiring Sheriff friend of mine was wanting to get rid of his service weapon. 1989 SigSauer P220 W. German. Only placed 100 rounds per year in to qualify. Never really plinked with it. Never shot anyone with it. But because I helped him out with satellite tv, computers, and other techno stuff; he sold it to me for $200.

2. About 4 years ago, a friend of mine got divorced. Wanted to start his life over, and wasn't into guns any longer. Sold me his 1974; S&W Model 13-1 4" 357 magnum revolver. Pinned/recessed. $150.

3. Last year, my boss had an AMT 380 Backup. He said it was unreliable and didn't want it. I asked him to let me look at it for the weekend. I realized that he was "Mixing" ammo in the magazine; including some hollow points and FMJ. I showed him that if he did JUST FMJ or JUST HP; and stayed away from mixing; that it was totally reliable. He said great, but he still didn't want it. Sold it to me for $75.

4. Plain and simply my 1955 M1 Garand that I got from the CMP. Price: $595.

5. This Christmas: My wife bought me an S&W M&P15OR. Original retail price; $1069. Normal price at Sportsman's Warehouse; $949. 3 Day christmas sale; $749. S&W Military and Police appreciation rebate. Total Price: $649.

2 years ago, I got paid to haul away an old jukebox.

I traded it for a beautiful Norinco SKS and an H&R .38 revolver. I traded the SKS for a 1903 Colt (95% mint all original).

So in essence, I got paid to take away a mint 1903 Colt, and still have the H&R.

Best deal I ever got....was when I was in the market for an AR. I was considering a stock dpms, which would've started out at about $800. Walked into one of the local shops I frequent, and netted a 556 flat top DSA with a JP match trigger, a Krieger bull barrel and a free float fore end on consignment for $700. Added a scope and buis.....SOB drives tacks out to 200yds so far.

On a side note, brought it up to a range in Pa where my folks are, and introduced my younger sister (16) to the joys of rifle shooting....she now wants one of her own. My father got behind the trigger, not realizing how light and crisp it is, sent a round down range before he had the sights on target (a finger off the trigger lecture followed).

A few years ago I picked up a stainless single six convertible, and a stainless MKII for $500, mainly to prevent the owner from turning them in to the police. At the time each individual gun was worth $500 in my neck of the woods. The convertible turned out to be one of the most accurate handguns I've ever fired.

Ruger SP101, bobbed hammer, 2.25 inch barrel, great condition - $200 :D
