Best Deal Ever

A friend of ours had three old 22 rifles rotting away in his garage. A 70's Marlin lever action, a 50's (maybe 60's can't remember) Remington Auto and a late 30's Marlin Model 80 (bolt action). He knew we were into guns and gave them to us. They were a little rough, but I got the steel looking decent and my dad refinished a couple of the stocks. I don't think any of them are worth all that much, but the price was perfect and all three are great shooters.

Romainian Ak47 with 500 rounds $250.
Remington model 597 $50.
Marlin 30/30 with less than a box of ammo shot through it $125.

Like a moron I sold the AK For $350 about a year later. Right before the prices jumped.

I used to find a lot of bargains but a few stand out in my mind :

Remington 1100 magnum - $80
Marlin 39A with hard case - $125
1962 Winchester 94 - $70
Early 70s Ruger 10/22 - $50
S&W pre-10 Nickel (1946) - $110

Late 80's. Nylon 66 with broken stock in pawn shop for $15.00. Took it to the smith and Remington replaced the stock for free. Now if I could find it. Had guns stashed everywhere before I got a gun safe, thats the only one I can't find. Probably uncover it when I move. Bought lots of single shot .22's when I was younger for $10 and $15.00.

Got a nice commemorative single action army in a presentation case at an auction a few years ago for $400.

I bought a Ruger MK II for $40 at a garage sale w/o mag. then at another one a 14K Gold repeater pocket watch, NAA 22LR, Pre Model 10 38 S&W, Colt Diamond Back 22, and a Colt National Match Pre 70's. All for $650

Stumbled on a Hamden CT, High Standard mod 103 this summer during our Nat'l. Hunting & Fishing day at my club. LNIB, original box and paperwork for $200.00. :what:
I couldn't pull the money out of my pocket fast enough.....:D. It's a keeper!

In 1973, during the "Dirty Harry" craze, when S&W M-29s were extremely hard to find, I found a 4" M-29 in the box-$200.

Traded a WWII Nazi dress dagger (absolutely gave me the creeps) for a new in the box Gen 3 Glock 22.

I had a couple. I bought an FN Five-seveN IOM for around $460, out the door. Looked as good as new. I bought an early '90s USRAC Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Classic for around $400, I'm not sure it was ever fired.

How long ago were these deals made and if recent, where do you shop? Those were/are great deals even if all were only at NRA 60% and in the last 15 years! :what:

And I thought I was doing good with a Kimber Eclipse Pro II w/papers and box for $650 out the door.

Friend traded me a HK93 with less than 200 rounds through it for a Remington 700 VTR with a Leupold VX-III scope. Said he doesn't have any interest in battle rifles.

U r one lucky man. Got a pre-69 model 1894 Winchester, a browning superposed, and a colt 1911 from ww1 all for 400 bucks. That was thirty years ago tho.

WWII 1911A1, excellent condition, $50.00. (1968, IA)

Original 1896 Krag carbine in excellent condition for $75.00. (1971, El Paso, TX)

nothing special but the glock 21 i got this past christmas was $399 marked down from $549 NIB

I put the approximate year and condition next to the guns above. I used to watch all the local classifieds (Shopper, etc) like a hawk and would leave work at a moment's notice to go look at something. Don't do it much anymore.
I still have all of them except the 1100.
