first off, lemme say i dont reload,im too lazy for that.im looking for something that can be bought at most gun stores that provides decent stopping power at a reasonable price.i normally shoot ball ammo through it but am curious about hollowpoints as well now.i enjoy my sig alot and have found it to be accurate,a good quality made gun.i havent tried hollowpoints yet and wondering if they feed them ok and which is best.

SIG autoloaders are (next to the Beretta 92FS) the most reliable 9mm defense guns IMO.

I personally like the Winchester Ranger 147 grain for my P226. Its a subsonic load and I do like it a lot. Mild recoil and a good street record. The L.A.P.D. and L.A. Sheriff are very happy with this load too. Whatever you choose get one that's comfortable for you +P or non +P. Gold Dots and Remington Golden Sabers are more commonly found loads that are very good. I personally stay away from 115 grain loads for defense. Do shoot a few boxes to test for functionability to be safe. Most peole shoot at least 200. I'm comfortable with 100.

Greeting's Folk's-

Standing Bear, I kind'a like the 124 grain Federal
"Hydra-Shok's". They feed really well, and have
NEVER disappointed me with their result's.

FootNote: I don't know for sure, but I believe this
is now the infamous "Secret Service Load"?

To me, the best (and one of the cheapest) standard-pressure 9mm defense loads is the Federal 115 gr JHP, catalog number 9BP. It has a very round profile for maximum feed reliability, is extremely accurate, and available at Wal-Mart (at least it was a few months ago).

In higher pressure loads, I'd go with the Cor-Bon 115gr +P, though ProLoad 124-gr Gold Dot +Ps are also highly spoken of.

I like the 124 +P Gold Dots. The Rangers seems to offer very decent performance but I've never had enough of the 9mms to be totally comfortable with them.

The 147s used to be horrible if you wanted any sort of expansion. The more recent 147s, esp the Ranger seem to have consistant expansion. Now that I am carrying a 9mm daily, come wintertime I'll probably try to get a couple hundred rounds of the 147 Rangers.

Gold Dot 124+p. Cheap enough to shoot in quantity to 'feel' they are reliable. Enough punch to know 1-3 rounds will take care of any need I may have for a defensive pistol.

I have never had a GD FTF/FTE. That to me is as impotant as any other stat a round may have

I've never noticed any differences in the quality of feeding from one round to the next. They either feed or they don't right?

Greeting's DigMe-

I have never experienced a feeding problem with
any quality self-chuncker; however if one
deviates from that theory, feeding problems are
quite possible.

With that said, I don't reckon semi-auto pistol's
feeding correctly is a major problem? If it is, a
little polishing of the ole' feed ramp will get most
weapons battle ready!

POS weapons such as Llama's, Bryco's, Star's, etc.
may have magazine slope angle problem's; at least
that's very true of the early one's. That's another
reason I don't fool with "junk gun's".

well, bought some 115gr hollowpoints, they were the cheapest (10 bucks/50)they had.the hydroshoks were 20 shots for 13 bucks.got alot of ideas here to compare to.will start off with the cheapest 115 gr and work through the lists to compare performances and comfort for my shooting skills.tests to be done on different things i.e.rotten wood, solid wood, old fridgerator,ect.25 yards.im just too picky about things i guess.thanks again.

If you are worried about being attacked by a refridgerator or rotten piece of wood that is a good way to go. If you truly are particular about these things, go to www.ammolab.com or www.tacticalforums.com and read about the scientific test results and analysis of actual incidents presented there. You won't regret it and someday your life may depend on it!

Check out the Winchester USA in the white box at Wal-Mart, 50 rounds of 115 gr JHP for 10.97. They burn clean and feed through my Sig P-239 9mm without a hic-up...

lol,jacketch.... afraid of being attacked by a maneating fridge?(unless it were full of good cookin then it better hot foot it).just want to see expansion in various mediums with hollowpoint ammo vs ball.i finally have the 9mm that fits all the needs and wants for me, now to just get the ballistics figured out.ill check out that site.thanks again:D

afraid of being attacked by a maneating fridge?
I dunno. I've seen life forms evolving in my fridge that I wouldn't want to mess with (man, I thought I threw that gravy out a month ago . . . )

If it walks out of the fridge, let it go . . .

:D

so, i'm fairly new to the 9mm world... are the 115 gr JHP loads considered not as effective? they seem to expand well in the gel tests... someone give me a quick explanation here
