Trying to figure out which 180gr would be best suited to 308 win speeds (2500-2600fps), most 180gr seem to be designed for 30-06-300 mags but some expand very well at modest speeds, which do you think would be better suited to a 308 inside 300 yards. Intended game is 120lbs deer - 300lbs feral hogs
Partition
Speer BTSP
Deep Curl
Sierra Game King
Ballistic Tip
SST
I have alot of hands on with the SGKs in other weights and calibers and they have been impressive across the board, not always pretty or even uniform but very effective. The Partition seems to have the most tapered jacket (don't they always) The Speer BTSP is considered the "softest" of the bunch from what I have read, eagerly expanding well below 2000fps. The Deep Curl should have the widest expansion, thought how fast it expands is still in question being as new as it is.

For the game intended I think 180 gr is too heavy. A good 150-165 should work just fine. I honestly don't know the answer to your question, but I'd research the 185 gr Berger Hunting bullets. That might be your answer. All of the Berger Hunting bullets are designed to penetrate a few inches intact, then basically explode inside even at very slow speeds. They are designed to kill quick even at extreme range and slower velocity.

I do know that the .30 cal. 165 and 180 gr Nosler Ballistic tips are much tougher than other ballistic tip bullets and would eliminate them from the list. Ballistic Tips in those weights are essentially Accubonds with a green tip instead of white. SST's are noted for quick expansion, but I have never used 180's. Just a guess really, but of the options you list I'd say the SST's will probably open up faster, or at least be pretty close.

It's not exactly on your list, but plain old Hornady Interlock SP's in .308 have always seemed to be a very quick expanding bullet for me, and they still hold together well. I'd bet the flat base version will be less likely to separate from the jacket than the boat tail. I tend to agree with jmr40 in that a 165 might be better out of a .308 I shot a nice whitetail once with an '06 using the Win. 'Combined Technology' (basically a Nosler BT) 165gr, and it did the job, but no evidence of the hard smacking quick expansion from the basic Interlock.

I've never had a Hornady interlock not open up and do it's job from a 308.
The Winchester 180 gr powerpoint also has worked well for me.

165gr bullets were my first choice too, but had to have a change of plans after my 308 refused to group well with them, I have spent months playing with every bullet/powder combination I can think of. So I have to choose between 150gr or 180gr, both shot very very well in my rifle. While I know people that use 150gr 30 calibers on deer I never have used anything that stubby (.226 SD if I remember correctly) That is not to say that I don't think they would work but I question their penetration.
I never thought of the 180gr Interlock as a fast expander at low speeds, but then again I cannot recall ever using them on deer either.
