Best full size .40 S&W handgun?

I own a XD-40 service & the now discontinued Ruger P944. They are both good guns but the XD's ergonomics work better for me. I do not own but have shot a Glock 23 & it is a very nice combination of size & capacity though technically a compact.

HK? Hi-power? If you go with another polymer I wouldn't get a glock or XD. Both are fine pistols but they are just to similar to the m&p. I just treat the polymers as a platform. You already have a couple m&p's, if you got a M&P40 FS you would have the advantage of interchangeable magazine's and holsters with M&P40c. As well as already being familiar with the function and ergonomics of the the M&P line.

I would say both the SA XD40 and the SIG Sauer P229 both are well built and handle the recoil good.

What you really need to do is hold all of these .40s mentioned and find the one that best fits your hands, that is the one that you want.

[QUOTEDon't bash me for this, but try the Taurus PT840.

seriously. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

I got one still NIB, have'nt had a chance to shoot it yet. Hows the accuracy?

I haven't fired every type or brand of .40 caliber pistol, so I can't state unequivocally which is best. I can say, though, that my Glock 22 is one heck of a fine weapon.

I love my Steyr M40, but I plan on a future purchase of a S&W M&P and Bersa Thunder 40HC due to the excellent reviews I've read of both.

Don't be so quick to dismiss the M&P40... You should remember that they make a Pro Series version that fits your requirements to a "T".

Just a little visual enticement:

@ Hunt480

Accuracy is rather good for the price. I haven't tried too much in the range department, but its more than capable of hitting center mass on anything you're willing to put a hole through.

Browning Hi-Power is a classic. Wood and steel. Nice balance, accurate and a bit pricey.

never owned a sig but i have owned a beretta 92 fs in 9mm great pistol so it would be a good gun in forty but the only pistols i own now in a 40 cal is a glock 23 and 29 to tell you the truth id go with the 22 for a full size
