Best hi-cap pistols?

Now don't laugh. My favorite Hi-Cap is the Star M30 Starfire. 15+1 capacity. It is ugly, does not exhibit a high degree of finish work and bluing is not real pretty either. The beauty of the M30 is that it works every time regardless of the ammo used. It shoots to the point of aim. The safety is a simple firing pin block. It's SA/DA and all steel. Regretfully Star is out of business and these are no longer made.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the XDm 9 with 19+1. Highest capacity out there in a standard double stack mag AFAIK.

Slightly different manual of arms than your 229, but very ergonomic and couldn't be easier to field strip.

high cap stuff...
i've got an ancient p-85 bought new in the 80's its still cranking flawlessly with well over 2,000 rds. beretta 92, Glock 17, 19, 21 and 30 Sigg 226 never had an issue with any of them an i shoot most days of the week.
The glock 17 is also first gen... maybe 1989 or so and its amazingly reliable and accurate.

CZ's are probably the best thing going. Fit like a glove, more accurate than you could be, and as reliable as a machine can be.
Just stay away from the owners site unless you are IN the 'cool kids club.'

I don't get the reference. What do you mean?

One of the nice things about the 9mm is that there are so many great pistols chambered for it. I have several different flavors of 9mm - BHP, SIG, CZ, Beretta - and enjoy the contrast between each type.

Best hi capacity pistol has got to be my "T model" BHP. No, wait, gotta be my Glock 20 and 21... great companion pieces ... very powerful .. but then there's the G19, G22 and G23 ... hmmmmm. Nope, gotta rethink ... just bought an SR9 and without a doubt it the best for me. Well, unless you consider my SR9c using the 17 round magazine adapters.

Dang I need six hands.

Check post #24. However, for carry, and due to excessive weight I find mags over 15 round can be a PITA to carry.

XD is not the same as XDm. XDm has more capacity, better ergonomics, does not require a trigger pull to field strip, etc, etc. I love my XDsc, but for a high cap pistol, XDm 9 takes the cake.

Why not just buy some long "sticks" for your current Sig P229 if you feel the need for more rounds out of a pistol?

With ANY handgun though, I STRONGLY recommend that the owner start shooting in competitive handgun matches requiring lots of rounds fired against the clock. Only this will let you see if you STILL shoot the pistol with the sterling accuracy you got during slow plinking at the range.

Under the pressure of speed against the clock, if your grip shifts on the handgun at all, (due to the combination of muzzle flip AND torque of the bullet exiting the rifled barrel) your accuracy will degrade evermore with each quick pull of the trigger. Most new competitors ARE good shots usually though, and don't even understand why they are missing like they are. Lots of new competitors, if they ask someone to observe where their rounds hit, discover their high cap does NOT fit their hand perfectly . . . and they simply can't miss fast enough!!!

Thus, if your P229 FITS you under this test, it would be THE one for you. However, you might discover your single stack 1911 is YOUR ultimate weapon to have in your hand if trouble ever comes your way . . . or even your trusty revolvers!!!

Food for thought!

S&Wfan, where that may be "good food", for too many people, that may not be an option. Especially now since there has been a run on 9mm ammo in just about every gunstore, and because many don't get into reloading, . . . that level of shooting isn't do-able. If you have the money and the ability to have plenty of rounds, then by all means do so.

Just my .02 cents.

Standard 226 and the mag selection is pretty decent, but that may change in the next few weeks.

I snagged a used one (226) last winter, found a batch of (5) SCT SIG mags for it, with the "Plus 2" mag bases for 20 rd capacity. Pistol still feels relatively balanced and feeds reliably.

If you are familiar with the SIG 229 tear down and maintenance just stick with the SIG platform.

Another vote for either CZs or Walthers (P99/PPQ). The P99 and PPQ have outstanding ergos and even better triggers.

I've decided to get either another Sig P229, a CZ75 or a Beretta 92FS. It will not be a carry piece, so weight (polymer) is not an issue. I have my Kahr P9 for that. I just need to decide which one now.

Thanks everyone.

The CZ 75B is by far the best value. If I had to chose between my BHP or SS CZ 75B, I would be crying as someone walked away with my Browning - that's how much I think of the CZ. Outstanding in every way and built to last a lifetime.

YMMV

My favorites of the ones I own?

XDM 4.5" 9mm 19+1 capacity
XDM 4.5" .40s&w 16+1 capacity
CZ75B 9mm 16+1 capacity
