Dr.Rob: "And anytime Robert Duvall pistol whips somebody I'm happy."

:D that was the funniest thing i've heard so far today, thanks!

The end of Pale Rider was the classiest gunfight. I liked the fact that Clint was using a '58 Remington with .44 Colt conversion cylinders. The other guns were all period correct, too. Not a single '73 Colt.

Then I would say Tombstone. I think that gets the prize for most shots fired. Great movie, and Val Kilmer (Doc Holiday) stole the show. I never realized what a terrific actor he was before. He should have won an Oscar. And, Dana Delaney looked hot, too!

I agree "Tombstone" is tops, but "Silverado" is the most fun.

"Mister, you ever see what a Henry rifle can do in the hands of a man who knows how to use it?"

Exactly!

"You idiot; he's hit everything he's aimed at!"

And my favorite, "I don't want to shoot you and you don't want to be dead!"

when you guys make quotes, you need to cite movies so us young blokes know what you're referencing.

my vote goes to tombstone because the whole movie is amazing, but Open Range has a pretty good shootout too.

Okay. Somebody cite this....

"Sharps. Or some kind of buffalo gun. Or a cannon. He can shoot... an' he know when to move..
an' we have lost five more."

"You ever hunt buffalo?"
"Apache."
"I knew it. When?"
"Before I know bettah.."
"You know how many dead we got?"
"Eeeleven."
"You count?"
" 'Jou betta."

I just got done watching Open Range on my laptop out here in idaho where i am going to college and i have to say that the shootout is one of the best i have ever seen in a movie. No one shot kills unless they were right to the head. You actually saw them reload their guns. it was just great. now i want to get some kind of single-action.

They are still makin'em. "The Missing", Tommy Lee Jones, R. Howard directs. The gun fight is fast, confused, chaotic. No poses, no slo-mo.

For pure quality gunfights, it will always be Tombstone & the Wild Bunch.
But I'm suprised no-one's mentioned the 2 gunfights in Purgatory. I thought they were very well done.

Honorable Mention: the Slap/Draw scene from Trinity, and the whiskey shooting from My Name Is Nobody.
"Nobody was faster" +1! Or any Western made from a Kurosowa movie.

Does "Last man Standing" qualify as a western? It is a remake of "Fistful of Dollars" :)
