Best non 1911 45

I have been in the market for a .45 for some time now. After a ton of research and handling, I found the best .45 is the FNP-45

But that is what was best for me.
I just brought this one home finally.

All others seem to be fine pistols but I like this one best.
Fits my hand perfectly, points naturally and has a good trigger.

In the hands of 9 other people it is prolly a brick.

if money isn't an issue, then i would say HK45 and anything from their USP45 line (elite, tactical, match). the HK45 has the best mag release design i have ever personally used by a long shot.

if money is an issue i would rock a glock 21sf. in my opinion glocks and hk's are the highest quality mass produced guns out there regardless of the discrepancy in price between the two. if i had to give one an edge i would give it to hk, but not by much. just look at the bluing on hk's guns. no other mass produced blued polymer pistol has a finish even close to the quality of the bluing an p2000 or hk45. if you take apart an hk or glock and put the components next to another gun, the other gun will immediately look cheap, even sigs.

BamBam,

It is 121 threads in a month, but who is counting?

CZ97 or Tangolio/EAA Elite Match are equal to, if not better, than the 1911 format.

3rd Generation steel Smiths

S&W: 4506, 4516, 4566

forged stainless slides and frames, very well built, accurate, and a reasonable price. what more could one want?

i wish they made a beretta 92 style in 45

Beretta did make the Cougar in .45 ACP, supposed to be a great gun, but a little hard to find.

I like my CZ 97B.

As much as I like Glocks, I really like the .45 XD! The grip fits my hand a lot better than Glock/HK/Sig...

well, you DID say "non-1911"

After the 1911 Platform, I like the P-90 Ruger.

Having owned both Sigs and HKs and liking both, I'll pick my West German 220:

I like my HD45 Tactical a lot, but I'd be willing to trade the slide and barrel for a service model version.

The first time I fired the pistol I honestly thought I'd had a squib load because it was such a kinder gentler experience compared to my Colts. It was the fisrt tupperware gun I owned, bought mostly to see what all the hoopla was about. Now I've even got a Glock 19 of all things for an old long time lover of the 1911a1 style of sidearm.

1. Sig 220
2. Glock 21
3. XD 45

My favorite 45 tho is my SA Professional (FBI CHOSEN HRT ISSUED). Hand made with extra heavy rails and Nolan barrel.

XD-45c is my favorite gun. It fits my average-sized hand perfectly, points naturally and lets me shoot better than anything. Good customer service and a very active forum of supporters.
A new acquisition I'm also liking real well so far is an EAA Witness 45/22 convertible. Similar grip and looks like it will be a good shooter also. Nice with both caliber tops on it. Only holds 10 shots though. XD holds 10 in short, compact mag but 13 in full sized mag...best of both worlds.
I can carry the XD but the Witness is really too big for concealed carry.
The Bersa 45 Compact is supposed to be very good like most Bersas but I haven't fired that caliber yet. I have two of their other guns and both work fine.
Best thing always is rent guns at a shooting range and try them out. What fits you and works for your hand is what will finally count. :)

I'll add one for the CZ-97B. The accuracy is great - it shames me - I'd love to see what a good shooter could do with it.

My new 97B has about 850 rounds of Remington and Winchester factory loads with no malfunctions or misfires of any kind. Its a big gun for my "average" hands, maybe not a good choice for smaller hands. Comfortable to shoot, given the weight. I also got it new for $500--I think that's a real good deal for this gun.
