I need some advice about the best pants for pocket carry. I carry the Smith340PD J-frame in the right front pocket. I have several pocket holsters - Mika, Mike's, Kramer - but in most of my pants the gun stands out. Mainly the grip. What type of pants work best?

I'm new to the forum. I'm in the central California mountains. We have a small business up here. I look forward to participating here on the High Road.

Many thanks.

I carry a S&W 642 in a Desantis nemesis pocket holster wearing Savanne brand or Dockers brand slacks just about every day. No problems at all with concealment. FWIW.

Carpenter's jeans work best for me, usually any brand, just check the pocket depth. They have some off brand "Old Glory" brand carpenter's jeans or some such at Walmart right now for 15 bucks that'd work, but they're cheap material. I passed on 'em, but they'd work. Also, Wrangler cargo jeans have pockets JUST big enough to stash a sub-compact 9 or small revolver in the front pocket strong side. That's what I'm wearing today. I like the cargo pocket and other pockets, too, don't have to sit on my wallet. I HATE sitting on a wallet full of plastic. :banghead: I often find other stuff, dressier, cargo pants stuff, even a couple of pair of camo cargos I bought recently, just check the pockets when I buy. I know about how deep/large I need 'em and to make sure the opening is large enough to draw from.

I'm still stuck on the jeans that were popular during my high school days. So I'm going with JNCOs. I pocket carry a Kahr PM9 in a DeSantis Nemesis holster no problem.

ETA: Carpenter pants seem to be the best....I'm sure any brand will work fine.

I find that the pants with the expandable waist tabs are excellent for pocket carry. The tabs are set at the pocket, allowing the opening of the pocket to expand when you put your hand in it. This makes it easier to draw the gun.

The Levi Signature carpenter jeans sold at WalMart are perfect.

There is far more than adequate room for my 642. I can even get my Ruger SP100 (2 1/4inch) in without showing.

I have not tried Dockers yet.

I have found that Target Store "Docker's style" pants work well, but be sure to check pocket size and depth. People look at me kind'a funny because I keep going around putting my hand inside the various pants' pockets. :what:

Opt for a looser rather then tighter fit. Always use a pocket holster.

If a pair of pants is otherwise good, you can have deeper pockets put in.

Khakis are my fav. Dockers, JCrew, Gap, whatever. Most have deep pockets now, and all seem to work fine.

My current favorite are the thicker material pant. Something like JCrew's new classic, or worn-in line. Or Banana Republic's khakis with a thick hand. They seem to print less.

I wear khakis everywhere. They're like my sweatpants, jeans, dinner trousers all rolled into one. :neener:

I found the Old Navy carpenter's pants or shorts work best for me. The lil change pocket on/in the right front pocket is larger than others and fits 4" autos great w/o holster. It covers the trigger gaurd and holds it securely in a natural position on P 345 and 92fs. Also carried a p220 but it got a lil heavy. I dont feel comfortable with a glock this way, but it fits good as well.
I need to try with a revo.

welcome to THR
g88. What grips do you have on it? Grips with no backstrap will conseal the best. i wear mostly car[enter jeans. Ths square but grip stick out. I wear a shirt over it.
The smaller round but grips work better. Alot of times someone could still see the but if they are at the right angle looking into your pocket.
Clip draw works nice for me when I'm wearing those pant that won't conseal right in the pocket. It hasn't been a problem for me with the clipdraw and pocket holsters

Thanks. I have 640 grips on the 340PD, ground down to boot grip length. They cover the backstrap, which adds about 1/8" to the gun's overall length. Walmart's Wrangler jeans solves this problem with their deep pockets.

But my problem is that, even though the pocket holster looks like a wallet, the shape of the handle of the gun shows. The best solution I've found for this is cargo pants where the outside pocket overlaps the gun pocket and prevents the handle of the gun from printing.

for work i usually wear eddie bauer chino khakis, or nautica loose fitting khakis. i carry a 642 in the right front pocket and it hides pretty easily.
for around the house, or away from work, i usually wear cargo khaki shorts. old navy, and gap shorts have both worked fine. i am looking for some jeans that would work well for pocket carry.

Relaxed fit Levi's work for me with a 442/642 and a pocket holster. I really have few problems concealing the gun with most any jeans that are not skin tight.

I often pocket carry a Kahr P9 using a Fist kydex pocket holster. I can carry in the front pocket of anything from Dockers to bluejeans and it's impossible to tell I'm carrying.

Another vote for carpenter jeans, with the Carhartt brand being my favorite. The material on even their single thickness pants is head and shoulders above virtually any other brand on the market, and cuts down on printing remarkably well.

BTW, good old fashioned overalls with the chest pocket are a nice way to carry a small snubby when running trap lines or fishing. Sort of a different need, but right handy. Those old H&R .22 snubbies seemed like a natural for that pocket a few decades ago.

It is a simple and inexpensive matter to have a tailor add some depth to a pocket. I have had it done a handful of times.
