Try as I might I cannot find a dealer carrying this stuff, I've only shot light ball in my mosin, I'm pleased with the result, but i wonder if a heavier bullet shoots any better. Where can I find this, and more importantly, does it shoot better?

Can't help you as far as who has it, I haven't bought any 7.62x54r in a while.
As far as the shooting better part, it's the same as light ball, some rifles shoot one thing better and other rifles, others.
I have quite a few Mosins, and really only a couple like heavy ball better. It does do a nicer thump on your shoulder, too.
Not much help, huh?

Well then, my Mosin already has stout recoil even with a pad, so I will probably pass on it unless it happens to be cheaper than light ball. Silver tipped, copper washed does shoot quite well in my Mosin as is.

that isnt recoil, thats the rifle jumping for joy....

heavy ball is not exactly easy to find because, there is little use for it as a military cartrige. prices run around the same, if you really want the best catrige go to 7.62x54r.net and check out ballistics first

czecsh silver tipped light ball is one of the hardest hitting rounds loaded(believe it or not)

I really don't notice any difference between light and heavy ball as far as recoil goes. Some rifles shoot better with heavy ball and some shoot better with light ball. My M91s seem to shoot better with heavy ball. My M39 will shoot under one inch with Privi 150 gr sp.......chris3
