Best Powder

I have looked at the manuals and it seems like the one most widely listed across the board looks like Accurate #2

I just stopped at a sporting goods store last week, and was talking to the sales person and was showing me Bullseye, BE-86, Unique, and Pistol Power, and he told me he likes PP at 5.0gr for his 9mm, so I picked some up, but still looking for some CFE.

On the Alliant powder website, they only have a 9mm load recipe for BE-86. I guess Alliant is trying to sell alot of BE-86. I thought it was odd because they make several powders that would work fine for 9mm.

I used Unique for years.........then I bought a dillon 650 and have metering problems. i have a new 8 lb jug that I'll load up the old way on the single station and measuring each load one at a time till it's gone.

Zendude,

Check the Alliant website again. If you pick generic bullets like 115 or 124 gr FMJ's you are correct, only BE-86 is listed. If you pick a Speer Gold Dot Hollow Point in a variety of weights you've got plenty of load data for Bullseye, Power Pistol, American Select, and Blue Dot. Those sneaky guys are steering you to their bullets!

Good Luck.

Dan, thanks for the info. I'll make sure to look at all the different bullets when going through their load data. I would have thought that they would show more info for the generic bullets. Maybe they get most of the load data from certain bullet manufacturers.

Have you tried the aquarium pump trick? Get a small aquarium air pump and rubber-band it to the side of the hopper. The vibrations help settle the powder into the transfer bar. I have not tried it with Unique, but it works very well with 700x and a couple other powders I tried that don't tend to meter very well.

Whatever you can get :)

I've used a lot of red dot, 700x,800x, CFE pistol is probably my fave at this point. But have 4 more to try....

!!!

You've bought powder so it's in your hands and I'm sure it'll be fine.

For now loaders I must caution about TiteGroup. Though it's a powder I really like,
it's kinda dangerous due to low case fill. Especially in 9mm. VERY easy to get
double charge. I lie Unique (thought i use a lot of TiteGroup.

Unique is not quite as clean, give slightly better velocity, and is MUCH more forgiving
in the load. Wider range, harder to double charge (likely the most dangerous part for
new loaders).

Be Safe!!

Ah yes, the age old question..... "The best powder for X...."
An open ended question if there ever was one. Each handloader will often give a different choice, and there is always that devoted group who think Unique (aka "Flammable Dirt") is the best thing since Moses was reloading, and cures all ills, is a great diet supplement and keeps fleas off your favorite hunting dog. ;)

Of course, all guns are different, so you try various choices and find what works best for YOUR gun and bullet choice.
