Best pro-gun states

Is there some list somewhere that ranks the states on the basis of pro-gun versus anti-gun?

I live in the People's Republic of New Jersey and am planning to emigrate to Real America. I want to know where I can go and not be harassed by idiotic anti-firearm laws as exist in New Jersey, New York, most of New England and Maryand.
 
Kentucky and Oklahoma Both Rock for Gun owners. Look for states that specifically prohibit local gun ordinances.
 
Florida is RTC, no permits for purchase, lots of gun shows, all the private sales you want, and we're class III. South Florida has loads of transplants (me.) The northern part of the state is more 'southern,' if that makes any sense. Also the deer down here are on the small side, although we have hogs and duck. If you like fishing, you'll be very happy.

Pennsylvania had to take down the sign, but they're also RTC and class III.
 
Maine, The brady bunch gives ME a "D-" for gun control.
ME shall issue CWL and they will sign AFT form 1's and 4's for any thing for a 22LR suppressor to a M203 40mm launcher. :neener:
Note: Your consealed weapon doesn't have to be a "hand gun", it was left very open :what: .
 
Where I am in Arizona is pretty pro-gun, lots of gun stores like J&G and lots of places to shoot and take classes such as Gunsite.

Yeah, all you have to do is go to the Brady site and reverse the grade order. :D

They give Florida an "F," so I give Florida an "A." They give California an "A," so I give California an "F."

As a Florida resident, the primary thing I would like to see changed would be the illegality of open carry. It would be so very nice to be able to openly carry my Sig 220 instead of having to worry about concealment and carrying a snubbie or subcompact pistol.

Montana pure & simple, and I oughta know as I high tailed it out of comi Calif. after 41 years. Open range & lots of hunting here. Organized shooting events anywhere and everywhere. Any firearm you want to leaglly own is your's. I had it with Calif. telling me what gun I can or cannot have, where I can go to shoot or what kind of rifle shotgun pistol or magazine capacity I can own, over priced and over rated gun stores that act like they are doing you a favor buying from them while charging full retail for anything. Freedom is a most beautiful thing, and I found it here in Montana. Seek it and leave your gun hating state whatever state it may be, you will find out very soon you will be very happy and glad you did the right thing for yourself and the peace of mind knowing your old state was a hopeless cause. I see my hard working tax dollars doing some good here where I pretty much felt it being wasted on ???? in Calif. I am honest and will tell you straight this is what I did so you know this is fact. I hope eveyone who read this will at least think and not write me off as a blowhard. I just love guns and shooting as a great recreation and hobby and a good stress diversion, as my family before me, so I just followed what I love to do to another firearm friendly state. My regards to all on THR.

I live in Omaha,Nebraska,and we have a mandatory handgun registration. The ONLY ONE in this state[foolish]. The rest of Nebraska,No type of the registration crap at all. But for ccw carry,you have to pay anywhere from $100.00 to $175just for the class and then after you pass the class it cost you an extra $100.00 to get the damn permit to carry. If I were you,Move to Vermont...... RichZ.,Omaha,Ne.:what::what::what:
 
Missisippi may be last in most everything else, but in gun Rights we are A+ material!

Class 3, Suppressors, SBR's, Shall issue CCW, stand your ground/castle doctrine laws, carry in car/home/land without CCW permit.
 
Indiana will save you a bunch of money, $25 for 4 years, with no classes, to carry or spend a little more and get your lifetime carry license, and you don't have to eat dinner at 4:00 pm while wearing sandals and black socks like in Flordia.:neener:

Things are getting better here as well--state park ban repeal, codification of no duty to retreat (Supreme Court decision in 1865, but finally in state law in 2006), preemption, emmagees, suppressors, oh, my. Now if we can just get more ranges around Indianapolis.

People from New Jersey may mock us but we Hoosiers just smile and clean our guns.:D

I'd go South (NC is frustrating, VA is sloppy with antis around DC, TX is getting better), or Midwest (avoid Illinois, MI and OH are getting better) or West until you hit California.
 
Kentucky is a firearm friendly state. Open carry is legal and socially acceptable, shall-issue state for ccdw permits, no localities can ban firearms, there's castle doctrine and stand your ground laws, people are used to guns, and so on. It's pretty alcohol and tobacco friendly as well.
 
Yeah in MI here we just got the OK for Mg's ,suppressors are coming close, no word on SBS or SBRs...yet :D. Your best bet is Vermont one of only two states (other is AK) that allow CCW without permit.

Hey now, MD may not be all that gun friendly, but to compare us to NJ and parts of New England!!!....come on now!

Except for a few semi auto handguns like Tec 9s, whatever you have in NJ you can bring with you to MD, but here you don't need an FID card, to register jack (except full auto), don't need to tell the state and you don't need state "permission" like you would in NJ or Mass.
In MD all "class III" except for exploding ordnance is legal.
We can have so called "assault weapons" and possesion of larger than 20 round mags is legal (no transfers allowed of over 20 rnd mags though).
We can walk into a store and buy an antique or cap & ball revolver handgun and walk out like we bought a pack of cigaretts.
With my C&R license I can order and have shipped to my house C&R handguns without getting the state's "permission" first.
MD is a de facto castle doctrine state (stand your ground only applies to in the home though).
In MD I can make my own handgun (for personal use) without telling the state.


Of course MD is not all flowers and candy.
We do have the seven day wait when purchasing handguns and so called "assault rifles" within the state (my C&R handgun purchase from out of state is not subjected to the seven day wait).
The state gets to decide which handguns made after 1984 can be sold in the state (possession is not restricted, just the sale of them is restricted).
Stuf like MAC 10/11s are illegal unless they are federally registered AOW, SBR or full auto.
Carry permits are virtually non-existent for anyone not a retired officer or a business person.
And we have similar transport laws regarding handguns (to the range, informal target practice, the gun shop, etc.), but pleeaase don't put us in the same category as NJ.
 
New Hampshire is relatively close geographically to New Jersey compared to some of these.

Open carry near-unregulated - you need a permit to carry loaded in your car.

CCW permits ('pistol/revolver permit') are shall-issue - no fingerprints and such.

No state 'assault weapons ban'. You only have to deal with federal regulations.

Only place off limits for carry are state courts. (Not courthouses, courts, they secure your gun inside the courthouse if you wish) And then there's the federal buildings, federal school zones and national parks but that's going to be around in any state..

And then there's Vermont just west of NH, with completely unregulated open and concealed carry. Only minus is the socialist climate which may be a threat to that liberty, and the state sound suppressor ban.

NH has many pro-liberty groups working within and outside the system to stop the Massachusetts influence and work further to reinstate the 2nd amendment - along with the other ones.

I will add my 2 cents worth on Kentucky as well. Shall issue CCDW (non-specific as to type and/or quantity). Open carry. Local municipalities are not allowed to regulate firearms. Class III friendly (Knob Creek is here). There are even public shooting areas in some of the state run wildlife areas.

Modern firearm hunting season for deer is any centerfire cartridge. No restrictions for muzzleloaders during the muzzleloader season for deer either.:neener:
 
Also PA prohibits cities/counties from passing anti 2A ordnances. If it matters, PA also allows ownership of all NFA devices except explosive DDs.
 
I'm a PA guy myself, and everything here is pretty good, except:

- Handgun private sales aren't all that private - they must be conducted through an FFL, and

- You have to fill out a second form when buying a handgun, that goes to the State Police, and

- Apparently, as we've just seen, our guv'nor isn't particularly worried about shutting down the instant check system here.

On the other hand, I've bought many a gun here, with no trouble.
 
Get out of Maryland!!

I too am from Maryland like Novus Collectus here but even to me Maryland is too strict. You have to register your machine gun to the state as well and renew it every year and fill out a new application for $10. So pretty much you have to pay the state to own a weapon guaranteed by the 2nd amendment. Also when you buy a pistol you also have to register it with the state police as well if the federal level wasn't intrusive and hard enough to get one. Also the ban on so-called "assault pistols." Where I come from in Maryland (Montgomery County), they are extremely anti-gun. They have tried to push legislation through in their own county to stop firearm ownership or the ability to. They have gotten away with no gun shows at the county fair so now I have to drive out of the county for every show, which isn't bad, but a nuisance. I also have heard they have banned any importation of ammo via online, I am not 100% sure but I have heard it some places. Even that is a nuisance because if my local gun store doesn't have the ammo I want I have to drive out of county to do so. Even though I am pretty sure Maryland has made it illegal for local counties and other municipalities to enact measures against gun ownership, Montgomery County has never been afraid to defy and do what they want at their own will because they have all the elitists of Potomac, Bethesda, Glen Echo, Takoma Park, etc... running things. I can not wait to move from this state. But hey, at least you can apply for a CCW when your 18 in this state, that is if you already have been a victim of a crime (such as my self, my brother, etc.). Did I also mention Maryland leads the nation in robberies and theft 12 years running??

But for pro-gun states what about West Virginia?? No restrictions on gun-shows, magazine capacities, no registration to the state, class 3 weaponry, pretty much only federal regulations apply. Getting a CCW permit is $90 but there is plenty of shooting and ranges to be found there. I got friends there. Not only that its a hunting state so there are a lot of hunters. In fact it is a state that prides itself on it. I am either moving here or somewhere down south. Screw Maryland.
