ATI mount removal m44
I bought an m44 with the ATI kit already installed. Personally wasnt a big fan, simply because It places the scope a little high for my preferences, however it does seem exceptionally sturdy in my limited experience with it. ( I could replace the stock with a Monte Carlo with a higher cheek piece, but a previous owner did a really cool tiger stripe finish on the stock and I cannot abandon it.)
That being said, I would like to remove it, but am not sure it this mount can be undone. Has anyone done this out there? Do I need to "plug" the holes after I remove the mount? If so, can I use shorter screws , or just some sort of filler? I just don't want a "Gas port" right in front of my face for obvious reasons.
I think you may like the ATI mount, but it really isn't for me. However, this is the first rifle I've ever had a scope on save for a .22, and I just don't really like them in general, so I am no expert. Good luck, and remember, an original finish gun that you don't shoot is about as useful as a trailer queen car that you are afraid to drive. Perfect if you're into that sort of thing, but if you're not, then by all means do what needs to be done to it to enjoy it, just make sure it is done right, so you don't end up ruining something. (I excel at ruining things it seems, so I try to only get creative with things that are already altered)
Good Luck!
