best state in the Union for RKBA

I don't know nothin' about hunting...but NC's CCW law leaves a bit to be desired:

-No carry in any place that charges admission (movie theaters, etc)

-No carry in ANY place that serves alcohol (ditto for TN)

-You HAVE to inform LEO you are carrying when addressed by them (during a "business" transaction I have no problem with this as I'm sure they hate surprises! But otherwise..."you're scaring the straights!" )

-ANY sign carries legal weight. I did learn recently that the law DOES say it needs to be conspicuous. But as I've seen, the definition varies widely.

Think that's the major beef I have. I THINK Open Carry is ok, but I never have so please double check that. Cost is $90 for 5 years. Takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to all 90 days, depending on how "anti" your CLEO is. Mine took just about 7 weeks.

I spend my "downtime" in TN which is a bit better except the same "no alcohol served" clause which eliminates any nice eatery. They DON'T have the "must inform" part, and the law lays out some specific guidelines for "gunbuster" signs to follow in wording and placement.

CCW doesn't count

CCW doesn't count unless you mean PKBA (Permission to Keep and Bear Arms) instead of RKBA.

Only permitless carry, open or concealed, counts as exercise of your rights. I think Alaska is top of the heap. Any state where open carry is a reality is good. There may be a few other states where permitless carry is a reality.

If you gotta ask permission, it ain't a right anymore.

Good point.

Though.......I'd hate to live in a state/city where even that permisson is denied.

Idaho

I don't live in Idaho, but I have family who does. It has a great combination of everything, much like Arizona.

- RKBA rights are great and with Brady Campaign rating of F+
- Hunting and Fishing is fantastic
- Jobs can be found in the major cities (this is a big deal... you gotta be able to work).
- You are also bordered by gun friendly states (the least of which is Oregon, but even then is very gun friendly for residents) that are equally beautiful.

For me any state that prohibits CCW in a restaurant that serves alcohol is out

That kills AZ, NC, NM, VA (;)open carry allowed), TN, GA and a bunch of other states. FL, NH, PA, IN, VT, AK, TX, UT, NY, CT, CO among others do allow carry in restaurants.

FL still has the caveat that you can't be in the "bar" section of a restaurant that serves alcohol (if one exists), only the food service area.

FS790.6

any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose;

I keep rewpeating Myself.................

What part of Ver-Mont don't you understand. Absolutely no permits, paperwork or fees. Carry however you feel like, whenever,Whereever. The police or game wardens don't get upset and seemingly no one else does. I don't see how it could possibly get better than this. Oops, I forgot that there is a state law prohibiting silencers............Essex

As long as you don't count Orleans Parish...

Louisiana.

If you don't have at least three or four guns in the house here, people think you're weird.

I would say FL or NH

Both have great laws... or should I say the lack there of. Also they do not have state income tax, although NH has no sales tax.:D

watson,
What degree are you getting? That might help in your decision. What weather do you want?

That said, I'm going to recommend Texas. No state NFA laws, No mag/gun restrictions, shall issue CCW, and a very pro gun governor(Rick Perry. He spoke at the 2005 NRA convention) Come help us keep it that way!

Hunting is great, with both domestic and exotic varieties. Plenty of hogs to hunt(no season, no rules on hogs) Depending on what weather you like, pick a corner!

If you're doing computers, we've got our own lil' silicone valley in Austin. If you are an engineer, we've got Houston and Dallas. I believe we've got an auto plant or two around San Antonio.

Massachusetts, IMO

You're joking, right? MA has some of the most draconian gun laws in the country and an overwhelmingly anti-gun populous. Need I remind you who your representatives are?

Alaska gives it's residents the most freedom of any state, in more areas than just firearms.

for lower 48 states, CO, ID, and WY have excellent ccw laws. Fairly hunter friendly too (though i am no expert there). I think job situation and weather will be the biggest factors for you wherever you go.

Aside from the PAGG (PA Game Gestapo) we have it pretty good here if you leave hunting out of the equation. No purchase limits, no-hassle CCW process. The only thing I would complain about is the lack of knowledge of PA's gun laws among law enforcement. I've heard several bad stories lately.

If I were going to move primarily based on RKBA it would be to VT or AK.

Hey now that wasnt very nice :( .

...TX... among others do allow carry in restaurants.
Depends on how much of their revenue is generated from the sale of alcohol for on-premises consumption, and whether or not they've posted a 30.06.

I also think its an open carry state though I wouldn't suggest it. You will draw quite a bit of attention as the result of the "theres a man/woman with a gun" group.
Ah, the good ol' days. NM is an open carry state. When I was a kid, we used to walk around the outskirts of Alamogordo with .22s strapped to our hips, going to or coming in from the desert, rabbit hunting. When I was 13, a cop stopped us once because one of "those" complained, but only asked for our hunter safety cards. We all had 'em. He liked my dad's Ruger MkI, so I let him handle it, then we all went our way.

OMG!! CHILDREN, carrying GUUNNNZZZZZ!:what: :what:

Wqbang mentioned Idaho as being good. I haven't looked into their gun laws but I can say that after a one night business trip to Boise it went on my short list of places to consider when it comes time to relocate again.

Once you narrow down your choices by their gun laws check out Money magazines list of the Best Place to Live and Work http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bplive/2006/
and http://www.city-data.com which gives census stats and weather for every town and city in the US.

Gun laws are one thing to consider but you also need a good job market, reasonable housing prices, lots of whatever it is you do for entertainment, good schools, reasonable taxes, low crime, and decent weather.

Florida.

1st state to start the "shall issue" concealed carry laws.

Recent update, clarification and expansion of the "castle doctrine" law.

Very favorable knife laws (autos OK, etc).

Another F+ rating from the Brady bunch.

Babes in bikinis almost year round.

Need I go on?

our laws are good but we're definetly not the best.

my biggest complaint is that we have no open carry

Best Place To Relocate To

I've lived in Wisconsin (bad), Iowa (bad), Oklahoma (a little better), and Texas (like Oklahoma). I now and forever shall live in Arkansas. CCW laws are good, hunting is great, and in the northwest corner, it's one of the fastest growing areas of the country with unlimited job potential. Send me a note and I'll carry this further. Thanks

I have to toss a vote out for Florida too. I admit that we may not have the absolute best gun laws. However, we do have some great gun laws as well as many other benefits. Florida has a reletively low cost of living including low taxes, we have bright sunny weather most of the year, some decent hunting and fishing areas, and as others have mentioned we have lots of babes in bikini.
