Brainonsigs
Vermont has nice weather compared to where I live. It gets downright hot in VT in the summer, but there are alot hippie types.

Firstly if thats a joke, its not funny. Its bad enough that mass "protects" its own people so well from themselves that they dont have there sites set on my state aswell.

"OMG!! CHILDREN, carrying GUUNNNZZZZZ! :what: :what: "

Lol...reminds me of something I read on one of those there "progressive" boards. Where a guy about wet his pants in terror when he saw his nephew's yearbook picture - kid in a tux, holding a Glock in a "James Bond-esque" pose.

The picture upset me too...I :banghead: because I didn't think to make any pictures like that the one time I rented a tux! :D

Definitely Florida, The Gunshine State.

Maybe I'm a little biased though :neener:

The thing with Florida is we have a great diversity of everything, except weather. The weather is just about always great.

If you want you NE atmosphere, go to Ft Lauderdale/Miami/West Palm. If you want the midwest, come to the West Coast. If you want southern, go to northern or central FL. If you want tourists up the wazoo, go to Orlando. If you want tropical, go to the Keys. If you want retirement, go to Melbourne or St Pete. If you want college chicks, go to Tallahassee, Gainesville, Tampa, or Miami. You want historical *cough* ghetto *cough* come visit me in Ybor in Tampa.

Only thing that sucks about FL is the drive getting out to go to another state if you are anywhere south of Ocala.

Our gun laws are an F+ to the Brady Bunch, that means it doesn't get too much better. We are allowed to protect ourselves down here.

Indiana- Hands Down

The Hoosier state has had two recent developments that have the anti-gun lobby wetting themselves:

*Lifetime CCW

*Legal carry in state parks

We have a pro-NRA/ RKBA Governor (Mitch Daniels)
We have a law enforcement community that trusts law-abiding gun owners to defend themselves, their families and their property.

On a related note, don't be fooled by all the negative media hype about the increase in homicides that Indianapolis has seen over the past summer (117 and counting for the year). What they don't mention is that in the overwhelming majority of these cases, the "victims" facilitated their demise by making bad choices. Drugs, gangs, robberies.... in most cases the paper had no problem finding convenient photos (mug shots) to accompany the write ups. This is just natural selection taking over.

"my biggest complaint is that we have no open carry".
Stauble, if I remember correctly, when they liberalized carry in '87, open carry was also.
There were so many problems, mostly with blissninnies, that it went away. And I never heard about the folding carbine law, ?? Joe

Legal open carry, though that's usually only seen in the northern part.
If it is legal but it is frowned upon or you get hassled over it....then it is a mute point to me.

I thought open carry was illegal there, though? That's a big NO mark, to me.
The consensus on most forums seems to be that concealed carry is the best route to go from a tactical standpoint. (Not that I agree 100%).

Especially after a hurricane.
I have spoke with the local police and they have stated that they wouldn't have an issue with me sitting out front of my house with an AR or shotgun or pistol on my side keeping the looters away in a "Katrina" situation.

+1 for VA and IN

I grew up in IN and now live in VA. IN is truly one of the most "progressive" (pardon the pun) states on RKBA issues. Lifetime CCW, Parks carry, etc. Also, one of my personal favorites is that the only requirement that you need to get a CCW permit is to have a state-issued ID. No classes required. Not a lot of gun bigots there, either.

However, while VA requires a class, it is a shall issue state and is generally gun-friendly. Open carry is legal, few restrictions on CC. In addition, VCDL is a top-notch pro-2A group and is far and away more effective than the NRA. Also, hunting in VA, particularly in Southwest VA, is some of the best in the East. Don't forget climate, either. VA has mild winters, and beautiful falls and springs (summer is a bit warm, but not opressive heat like AZ).

Nevada is great, I'm a former Californian and I'm basking in the warm loving glow of a "free" state. Real low unemployment and resonable housing prices (reasonable to CA). Shall issue is easy to obtain, plenty of hunting.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there CCW gun registration in Nevada - IE, you can't carry a gun unless it's "registered" with LE for your permit???

Funny I haven't seen one mention of Maine. Shall issue state , open carry, firearms for hunting laws are almost non existant other than you are linited to a 5 roung mag on rifle . only real firearms laws are federal . Btw , funny when people talk of CCW they always mention Florida , but Maine actually had shall issue status 2 years prior . The one pisser about Maine is they have no reciprosity with any other state ( Maine's fault, to anal) .

California!

The government cares enough about you to test handguns before they can be sold. Only the safest of guns are allowed! And on top of that, they make sure that only the smartest, safest people buy guns by testing them!

There's a ten-day waiting period for guns, so your nutcase neighbor can't get mad, run out to buy a gun, and plug you. He has to wait ten days. Oh, and he isn't permitted to carry his instrument of murder concealed, either, so you can see him coming.

Your neighbor can only buy one gun a month, so if he does get mad at you and stays mad for ten days, maybe he'll lose it, and it'll be another three weeks before he can try again!

You can only get ten round magazines. So, if your neighbor is still angry after waiting all that time (and who wouldn't be incensed?), when he starts blasting away at you, he only has ten rounds! By the time he gets "into the groove", he's out of ammo!

There are lock requirements, so it's impossible for some kid to find a gun and accidentally blast you.

No "assault rifles" or .50s allowed, so you don't have to worry about methheads playing around with ridiculously powerful weapons, shooting halfway around the state through dozens of buildings, and killing you in your living room.

So, you see, California is the place to be!

States

Go to packing.org or handgunlaw.us Look at which states, are right to carry, right restricted, or right denied. I'd take any right to carry state. :)

Screw Bloomberg - I also vote for PA. The dems in the state legislature right now are trying to flex their anti-gun muscles, but their ideas are illogical as usual and therefore will ultimately fizzle. Plus, PA has more NRA members than any other state in the union, and yes that includes Texas. I hear the state Attorney General is a life NRA member.

I agree that the public sentiment in Philadelphia is very anti-gun, but if you're moving into PA I wouldn't recommend locating in Philly anyway. We're shall issue, have lots and lots of great ranges, huge number of sportsman's organizations and coalitions, and overall a good gun climate.

I'm biased towards PA because I live here, but Alaska and Vermont seem to be good choices as well.

Btw , funny when people talk of CCW they always mention Florida , but Maine actually had shall issue status 2 years prior .

Maine adopted a law in 1985 that was touted to be "shall issue" but was actually still discretionary. The 1985 law did not eliminate the rather subjective requirement that permits be issued only to persons with "good moral character."

Florida, in 1987, was the first state to introduced a true "shall-issue" concealed carry law.

Yeah NV makes you qualify with each firearm, but there's no serial info taken at all, just a qualification. So, no, there is no "gun registration" at all.

Florida was the first state to have "shall issue" according to whom???

Indiana had them beat by years

Indiana, along with 9 other states, were considered "Right to Carry" states prior to 1987. Their gun laws still had discretionary wording in them.

In 1987, Florida enacted a “shall issue” law that has since become the model for other states.

This is straight from the NRA-ILA web site.

You can't go wrong with PA, we're a "shall issue" state with vast public hunting grounds.

So long as we can keep YOUR hands off our laws! (by "you" I mean Philli, not actually you)
