I'm in need of a scope for my Rem 700 22-250. I'm thinking a minimum of 4.5x14 magnification. Maybe a 6x24 if the budget allows. All of my other scopes are Burris fullfield 2 or Leupold's cheaper models. I like them all fine. I recently purchased an older Burris fullfield (6x18) and I didnt like it. Sold it today.

In the $2-400 price range, what is the best option? I'm not afraid to buy used, and really like Burris's warranty. I'm thinking about another fullfield 2 4.5x14.. Is there a better option? What do you guys think???

How far are you shooting, what weight bullets, velocity. If you are shooting at 50 yds, a good 4x fixed will do. But if you are reaching out and working hard, get some decent magnification.

2 to consider:
Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 from CameralandNY
Weaver Grand Slam from Natchezss.

nikon buckmaster are in the price range you mentioned. I think mine is very good quality for the money and like the BDC. There is a 50 dollar rebate for them right now through nikon. there is a 4.5x14x40 and a 6x18x40

Its on the high-side of your budget, but opticsplanet has the Nikon "Monarch"
series 4x16-50 for $439 right now,
same one I use on my remmy-700 .243
I have always had good luck with the Monarchs,

There's a 6.5x20x40 VX-3 for sale right now at The Varmint's Den web site (http://www.varminthunters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44436). Stretches your price range at $525, but they're AWESOME scopes. I've got three of them. Compare very, very favorably to Swarovski.

I've got a 4x16x50 B&L 4000 on my 22-250. It would be equivalent to the Bushnell 4200. Happy with it so far.

FWIW...my friend has a Nikon BDC on his AR. After using the VX-3's, the Nikon is gonna go away.

This is my prairie dog gun...
You don't know how much better really good scopes are until you've used one then try to go back to a cheaper one. Went on a PD hunt two summers ago. Difference in quality REALLY shows up there when you're looking thru them for hours. Everything looks good in the showroom.

Leupold 6.5-20 or straight 24x is my scope of choice. the variables never get changed from 20x though, so I started with a straight 24x. Love it. I have used less but I will not go backwards when looking through one for hours at a time......I am considereing a 35x or 45x for my .220 Swift.

SWFA just emailed me a Nikon Flyer. Buckmasters in a few different flavors for around 200 and monarchs in the 250-300 range. Most were in the magnifications you are looking for. You might want to check them out.

Leupold VX3 6.5-20x40mm with Varmint reticle sitting on my Remington 700 VLS in 22-250.

weaver has rebates available on their scopes if that helps sweeten the pot a bit for you. But I would probably get the cheap viper.

I dont think the Leupold VX3 is gonna fit in his price range max of $400. it is one of my favorite scopes on several of my rifles and they all cost over $600 in that magnifications.

I have the Fullfield II 4.5X15X42 with the Ballistic Plex reticule, it is 100% better than any 24 power variable I have been able to afford, shoot it on a 308 and 223.

If I was serious about the VXI or VXII line from Leupold I would have to checkout the Redfield line which is American made by Luepold, may be enough price difference that you could wind up with a top line Redfield that matches or exceeds the low line Luepolds.

I have run into a few good deals on lower price point models one was the Master Hunter line from Simmons a 4X12X42 side parallax pretty darn good scope for the $ heard the ATEC Simmons is even better.

daggerdog, dont think the AETEC is available unless you luck out on one. I heard they are good, probably why they quit marketing them. I can testify the Redfield Revolutions are better than the Redfield Revenge I think they are called. I have 2x7x33s on my mini 14s.

Oh, keep looking at SWFA, Optics Planet, Midway, etc. for their demo and close outs. A few years ago they had (IIRC) some 4200 Bushnells for maybe 1/2 price.
