Best way to get a shipping quote?

Hi-

For the first time, I am shipping a handgun that I sold to a FFL.

I need to get a shipping price before shipping because the buyer is to pay.

The revolver is in the factory plastic box, but I do not have a cardboard box that fits.

Is there a better way to do this than just carrying in the plastic box and asking for a quote?

I have shipped many things at this UPS, but never a gun.

UPS requires that you take it to a hub and ship it overnight (their policy). I would also insure it. You should be able to get a quote online using the recipient's zip code.

FYI - I did this last night on the UPS website and the price I came up with, overnight delivery, 16"x16"x4" box weighing 4lbs was just under $40.

I gave my buyer that quote.

I just used the online rate calculators for UPS and FedEX.

They were very close to being the same.
