For dogs, I've gone w/ pepper spray since I was attacked by 2 dogs a few years ago. Since then, I've only had to use it once and it seem very effective.

bicycle spray...

I have found that the large cans of wasp and hornet spray fit nicely in a bottle cage.

They often have a 15 to 20 foot range with a trigger style nozzle.

I have used this easily from on the bike and stopped to dogs in their tracks from more than 10 feet away.

Once they get close enough for me to worry about dismounting, I have my 38 out of my pocket in case they make it through the bicycle "fence". I also put in a call to the sheriff and or police about the problem street address once the fiasco is over. I use a non emergency number for this call.

You're carrying wasp and hornet spray to use on a dog? I can't imagine why you would go with that instead of OC, and I'd guess you'd be in trouble if you were caught.

Georgia Code - Crimes and Offenses - Title 16, Section 16-12-4

I have to agree with carpetbagger thats cruelty.

If I am attacked by a dog I reserve the right to shoot it as many times as I feel necessary for it to stop moving. Is that cruel too? Do dogs get more protections than humans now?

No, but I'd also say that spraying a man in the face with toxic chemicals or acid is never permissible.

I dislike the pepper sprays in general. The wind can render them moot or a danger to you. A nice telescoping club attached to the bike frame with a tire pump bracket will serve you just as well.

If your in America(Dog lovers and very humane people ;)):
You establish friendship with the dog and the owner(Buy 3 hotdogs..1 for you ,1 for kujo and one for Peter/Pedro. If those don't work call the animal control,Immigration if they're both illegals and the Police. Sue the owner if you got bitten and buy a scooter or a ninja :)
Or you can talk to the owner about his/her dog and they might call Cesar(Dog whisperer) to tame kujo.

If your outside america( 3rd world countries )
If friendship don't work..Still buy the hotdog but w/ * stuff *and guaranteed the dog will not chase anymore :)
Other countries, Usually Hardcore beer drinkers that likes to hang around on the end of the street near the liquor store...They like those bad to the bone dogs that likes to chase people and barks a lot. All they need is a 2x2 (Dos por Dos)hardwood..after that.. It's dinner time along with their San Miguel Beer :D ;)

Take care and be safe..

wasp spray

I have seen pepper spray used on a dog and its not pretty. Knowing what OC does to a person and then count that however many more times powerful a dogs sinus cavity is than a humans and go from there.

Dog can't breath because everything swells and starts shaking due to allergic reaction shock almost dies of a heart attack or respiratory lock up right there.

The one time I used the bug spray, the dog turned up his nose and walked away.

I don't think the laws you posted apply to a self defense situation. I would think the "lead spray" and Oc spray would qualify as much or more.

I learned the trick from a mail delivery guy and from a meter reader whom I don't think know each other.

shoving a sharp stick down a throat doesn't sound too pleasant either.

Just thwap them on the nose with a good stick or club. It works great in the 99% of cases where the dog is running on prey drive, and in the very rare cases when they're a real attack dog coming to kill you neither a stick nor spray will do you any good.

The Zefal HPx...

In the shop, we used to say that "HP" stood for "Hound Pounder." Not to mention, it''s simply the best bicycle frame pump ever made anywhere, by anyone.

Not only do mini-pumps suck for inflating tires, you can't beat a dog with one.
