Check this out!
I found one of these at the mall today and just had to have it.

While technically a club, this steel "stick" is in reality a slimmed down baseball bat designed to improve batting accuracy. it is 30" long and weighs 30 oz. The fat end is only about an inch and a quarter in diameter and the grip end is slender enough for one handed control with comfortable non-slip rubber along with the traditional knob to keep it from slipping out of your hand.

By now most of you know that I favor a heavy stick but the problem with a full sized baseball bat is that it is just a little too big and heavy for one handed use. (The minimum weight allowed in the Majors is 31 ounces) This thing is a little lighter than a regular bat and because of the smaller diameter it concentrates its force on a smaller area. If I had to pick the perfect non-edged impact weapon for self-defense I would be hard pressed to find anything substantially better.

Now here is the best part, this is a legitimate piece of sporting equipment. As long as you have the little practice balls that come with it in your vehicle no one can prove that you were not on your way to do some batting practice. I walked all over the mall with it and no one even noticed. If you are carefull you can snip off two zip ties and slide the blister packaging that holds 3 whiffle balls and the instruction card. This can be put back on at any time to give the appearance that it is still new and in the packaging yet you can slide it off as fast as drawing a sword.

BTW, This is the Skilz POWER STICK NOT the 12 0unce Speed Stick.

Black has become the universal color of weapons. If you must paint it, paint it white or one of the warm colors like yellow or orange. The idea is to make it look like something besides a weapon. If you ever hit a bad guy he won’t care besides, if you use it right everything in his world will turn black.

Except now a plaintiff's attorney can google Sklz Power Stick and your statements about turning a bad guy's world black will come up in the first page of results on a forum called "Non-firearm Weapons."

How is he going to find out that I post on THR? I am not going to talk, even if he knew he would not know which posts are mine because we all post using fictional names and not even my wife knows what name I use here. Sieze my computer? It will be off warrant at some friend or relitives house if I think there is even a remote chance that I might get sued for defending myself.

A feminine color might not be a bad idea. Not necessarily pink but something pastel like a pale blue or light yellow. Men like solid basic colors (look at any gun magazine) Women like colors closer to the white end of the spectrum. Disguising your stick by painting it an unlikely color is not really a bad idea. What if it were red and white striped like a candy cane? That would certainly not look out of place this time of year. You could even tie a pretty red bow on it. Seriously, no one would suspect anything with a bow was a weapon yet the ribbon would not slow you down at all in an emergency.

BTW, anything wraped in black tape looks senister.

I guess im a purist and think that you should never sporterize. Of course the more of you guys that paint you powerstick, it will raise the value of mine. :D

Seriously though why paint it?? Are you wanting it black so you can sneak up on a BG?

And painting it pink? Do you want a pink bat sitting in a corner that you have to look at all the time??
I really think this whole thing is being over thought.

How is he going to find out that I post on THR?
I saw a murder case on tv were they took an Iphone that had deleted text messages and brought in an expert to recover them from.

If you ever get into a situation where the DA wants you bad enough, they will find your posts about your EBPS( evil black power stick)

The whole painting idea was intended to be silly, I hope:scrutiny:, and it is sillier, that is a real word isn't it, to take it seriously:rolleyes:.

Same item I pointed out at Dick's Sporting goods in one of the stick threads. Very very handy.

I just may have to get me one of those. I've been carrying a piece of thick PVC pipe thinking it would be tough enough to handle most problems. However, I've seen the error of my ways... it failed my non-scientific tests (I bashed a rock with it). :)

That might be just the right replacement for my stick.

like to see a big bruiser whack it savagely until tired on a telephone pole before I buy into it.

This is a hollow steel tube and like any metal bat, it will bend if you hit a telephone pole or a rock with it. It is not that tough, but then it does not need to be if you plan on using it as a weapon. Human bodies are not all that hard and it should prove to be plenty tough enough for that use. I worked out on the heavy bag with mine and it held up just fine. Actually, it should be a bit stronger than the typical metal bat for two reasons. First of all it is made out of steel rather than aluminum and secondly its smaller diamiter tube should prove to be a bit more ridgid than the larger diamiter of a regular bat.

Cool tip, thanks!

(but can you hit someone in the eye with it on demand, that's what I wanna know...)

;)

No but I can hit a single leaf with it. I was out in the yard earlier doing a bit of practice. There are no leaves left this time of year so I was targeting the tips of individual twigs. You can get reasonably accurate with sticks and knives if you practice.

I would personally keep it in factory dressing. I mean, why not go to a game range and practice hitting balls too? Get a bag for it that has a place for the balls too while you are at it.

Not bad at all.

Personally I like the Easton Thunderstick a bit more. It's just a straight cylinder and even less bat-like.
