As someone who has made his living the last 11 years as a packaging engineer, perhaps I can add one point to consider.
Remember the old Samsonite commercials with the gorilla in the cage beating up the suitcase.
That's my poster child for a worst case distribution cycle.
If manufacturers all designed their packaging for the worst case scenario, we would enjoy never having our suitcases pop open, and we would pay considerably more for the products we buy and packaging we throw away.
The trick is to design for the appropriate "expected casualty" and if it's really a valuable shipment, make sure it's insured.
I often tell our customers, "I can design a shipping container that will protect you product even if thrown off of the Empire State Building, but you won't want to pay for it"
As you all know, 1,000 bullets makes for a heavy little package which can generate some high inertial forces.
That said, all these guys really need to do is completely wrap the inner boxes with fiber re-enforced tape and they'll solve 98% of their problems.
I've ordered from Berry's multiple times and from others as well and have never had a problem.
Perhaps I should venture down to Foxwoods, since my luck seems to be good?
