I'm trying to find a way to not get fat during the winter (I cycle all summer), and was thinking about looking into Biathlon. I'm starting to look at skate-skis and will likely get a setup this month. There is also a summer series that includes either running or mountain biking.
EAA makes a basic biathlon rifle I'm going to post questions about it in the rifle forum.
Anyone here a biathlete?

Not a biatholete, but the area I teleski at (www.whitegrass.com) usually runs a very very very laid back biathalon every winter. Its great fun and a great opportunity to play with guns with a bunch of folks who you might otherwise think were complete and utterly crazy died in the wool Democrats (which they generaly are, but at least they play with guns).

Its awfully tough. I've done it a couple of times with a 10/22. Getting your heart rate down takes a long time - though not as long as skiing the penalty laps for each missed shot.

Not sure how many rounds you MUST have - when they do it, they put up plinking targets and each station has five shots. You end up taking 20 or 30 shots total.

The ruger magazines are good and easy to slide in and out. With the awb expiring, I got meself a big ol 25 round hot lips mag and hope to use that this winter. We'll see.

which is the more popular sport in america, biathlon or Highpower. I see an awful lot of HP shooters but I've only met one biathlete.

I'm sure highpower is way more popular. There is a biathlon club here, and I am hoping to find a way to entertain myself during the winter months. I don't know how to ski, and I can't ride my bike very much in the winter.

Wow - gotta love a sport where the competitors have names like these. From last February, okie, at the site you linked:
Norway wins relay
Norway with Linda Tjoerhom, Gro Istad-Kristiansen as well as Gun Margit Andreassen and Liv Grete Poiree won the gold medal in front of Russia and Germany this afternoon.
I'll be moving to Wisconsin this winter; I'm likely to start. I used to X-C ski a lot. I'd like to find a group up there that runs formal (biathlon) races. Whether I'll be up to serious competition or not, any of y'all who come by the farm (I'd probably better quit saying "y'all") might see me on skis in the back 40 with a rifle.
