Biden to target 'ghost guns,' stabilizing braces in new gun control actions

Do I correctly understand that Biden has directed the ATF to reconsider braces, but pistol ARs with bare/foam covered buffer tubes will still be “ok”? Right now no one is talking about making AR pistols SBRs as long as there is no brace attached?

All the gun control proposals, at least since the AWB of 1994, whether or not enacted, have actually increased the number of guns in this country. The ironic thing is that there would be fewer guns if the antigunners just kept quiet.

I would really like of politicians focused on the non-divisive issues instead of imaginary problems like “gun violence” not based in fact. More than half of those polled in a recent Gallup poll were either satisfied with the current gun laws or believed they were too stringent. Nonetheless and against the will of the majority, the politicians are ramrodding gun control. This country would be much better if these politicians focused on legislation that the vast majority of people agree upon. For instance, let’s make it illegal for telecommunications companies to raise the cost of internet without first providing customers a written notification that a price increase will occur in the future. I’m pretty sure that the average person would appreciate such legislation. The best thing that these politicians can do in my opinion is nothing (I’m saying this not just with regards to gun control and not just for Democrats)... I’d much rather them all take their six figure salaries and watch movies or go on a vacation for the duration of their term.

Guns are not the problem. If I could go back and thousands of years and talk with an ancient man, his mind would be blown by the lightbulb, the camera, the TV, a gun. However, he would understand violence and the desire of competing factions to war, and the evil in men. My point is that there has been and will continue to be criminals and evil people. The technology be it knives, bows/arrows, muskets, or guns are simply how those criminal perpetrate their evil.

Also, Einstein noted that if he had an hour to solve a problem, he would spend 59 minutes determining what the problem was and one minute solving it. My point here is that these politicians either immediately assume that guns are the problem and that banning guns is the solution or they know that the problem isn’t guns, but out of a personal dislike of guns, avoid addressing the actual problem and opt to ban guns.

Also, calling something “common sense” does not necessarily make it so. I can call myself a “brain surgeon” all day long, but it doesn’t make me a brain surgeon. In fact their forceful overuse of the term “common sense gun control” shows that they know it is the complete opposite, but they wish to fool people into the belief that if they don’t buy into the proposed “common sense” gun legislation then they must lack “common sense.”

And I deliberately call these people “politicians” instead of “leaders” because the vast majority are not leading; they’re simply pushing a selfish agenda not based on statistics or the will of the people.

Slightly less than 80% receiver, some machining required....

If a 6" piece of bar stock is $334 and an 80% lower is $40 then why isn't the construction industry making everything out of 80% lowers?

Seriously, that price is a bit insane for a lump of unimproved aluminum that hasn't had any value added. Time to start saving up my soda cans I guess.

Well, it is 144 inches long... Figure you slice that up like a loaf of bread, you'd actually have enough billets for ~72 lowers.

No, the $334 is the price for the cut piece. Look in the upper RH corner of the ad. The full 144” bar is $737, so you are correct it would certainly be the better deal. They really must not like cutting stock because that’s one heck of a cut charge.

Sorry, I know this is OT.

The cutting is not the problem, it is the “drop”. What do you do with the remnants? Somebody orders a 84” cut to length bar, what are the chances someone else orders a 60” bar? Even worse, you have a bunch of cut bars - how do you inventory them? How do you decide what to cut the next cut out of? Most charge for the sold material, the cut, and some portion of the remnant (all if you can get away with it.)

If all this legislative talk ends up failing because of the split in the senate, it could cost Democrats seats next year in the house, and could cost them the election in 2024. So we just need to keep hammering all of them to not to push this stuff forward. Need to figure out a way to reverse this round of executive orders, get them removed as unconstitutional.

I think you mean that if the legislative proposals (on guns) succeed, it could cost the Democrats the election. If the proposals are put forward and fail, there would be little political cost to the Democrats. In fact they might pick up a few points from the suburban antigunners. That's exactly the thinking behind this Kabuki theater coming out of the White House. They're proposing this stuff in the sure knowledge that it's not going anywhere.

Let's wait to see the actual orders. If the Court doesn't take a case on the overarching issue of AWBs and mag bans, you could forget other actions. The brace issue is again the dodge around SBR rules. Why would a receiver or kit rule be by itself unconstitutional if procedures such as NICS not found to be in violation of the Constitution?

While we border on politics, recall both parties put forward virtue signaling bills all the the time for funding raising. If they actually passed them, they put themselves out of the outrage, funding raising, send a check business. Would you get a flood of members, voters, check if there wasn't a threat - because you won the battle. We would all go back to the couch, chips and beer.
