This is not a rant because I didnt get mad and am not mad. I just find it amusing.

When checking out ammunition for sale at Big 5, every package I asked to look at came with a "This is great stuff" or "I havent shot this yet but I have been meaning to." Not to mention I had to explain what 00 was, how to idtentify the box for slugs, how it wasnt the huge box of game loads, and how .357 magnum and .357 sig are two different rounds.

The best was when I opened a box of "Speer Lawman" .38 special +P, and the employee says to me "These are titanium tipped."

I dont expect the employee to understand anything about munitions. At least he was there to help me right away and I didnt have to wait. I didnt say a thing about him being wrong, whats the point you know.

I think people need to relax about their rants. Not everyone who works in a place knows everything. Just ask yourself, do you know every aspect of your company and every single product you sell? If you do then kudos.

Its sometimes fun listening to people talk about stuff trying to impress you.

I would have asked if he had any experience with depleted uranium 60 caliber magnums, just for grins.

I wouldn't be suprised if Big 5 employees get some sort of commision on their sales if not part of their wage. So you may find some employees will use a BS line to help close a sale. Whether or not they are knowledgable or nor about a specific product probably makes no difference to them. They want to make a sale and the more sales they have the better they look to the store manager.

Somtimes it's fun to bait a clerk who clearly knows nothing about what you are buying by asking questions that you know there is no answer for. Sort of like going into an auto parts store and asking some obiuosly newbie for muffler bearings. Or a left-handed cresent wrench.

My experience from sporting goods / Wal Mart type places has been varied.

At one place, I went in and asked for "A couple of boxes of 115 gr. ... and before I could finish saying "9mm Luger" the boxes were already on the counter. Then "and a couple boxes of 230 gr. ... and those were on the counter before I could finish saying ".45 ACP."

On the other hand

Years ago Dad and I went to Kmart to get a couple boxes of 12ga. #8's.

The clerk said "Is that some kind of 'bulletshell'?" Dad had to go behind the counter to find the right stuff.

"Bulletshells" has been a running joke in my family for quite awhile.

Hey!

What's so funny?

I bought a tub full of depleted Uraninium 60s sometime back for $5 a piece.

They look good except they DO resemble .50 cals and are a little tarnished.

But, hey......I got 'em and you don't!

He he he he.
