'MURICA!
So just found out about a super deal of ammo (in stock) at a local Walmart. Showed up and was waiting for an employee that had the keys to unlock the case. There were 5 of us standing there because of the 3 box limit (all normal clothes, calm normal folks, adults, no weird comments, etc.) and an employee asked, 'You're not all part of a sleeper cell are you?'

It seemed to be a half joking but not really joking kind of comment. I didn't care much at the time but it kind of irked me after. Americans buying some ammo (3 boxes a piece no less) and we get this kind of comment? I'm pretty laid back but sometimes something like that will just hit me that we've come that far in America.

I almost wanted to contact the store and give them crap but at the same time I know he's just a regular guy no ill intentions. At what point do you give them a backlash for being naive/anti gun or just let it go? I'm just going to shrug it off, but it's kind of sad in a hick town that even 1 person has that thought when seeing some regular folks waiting to buy ammo.

BTW the ammo was brass cased .223 for $6.93/box of 20 (bulk packs). Didn't actually catch the brand was just scooping it up.

The harder you try to be offended, the more likely you are to succeed. Let it go, it was a dumb joke that wasn't even funny.

Something like that in my opinion isn't even trying to be serious. Relax friend, it seems in this instance the employee was just trying to be friendly. Granted, not all comments come off the way they were intended, but if he was serious in his inquisition, he wouldn't have voiced it.

He was definitely not trying to be friendly but you're right. Like I said I shrugged it off, just sucks that that's the first thing people think of.

Not like it will happen again, there's no more ammo left in the US. :)

i would have said yes, we're part of an elite tactical fast response unit for the girl scouts when people don't pay for their macaroons.

In a similar and less politically correct parallel universe your response could have been: "Well I could tell you more but...we're not taking on any new members right now. But if you would like to leave me your name and phone number someone will be contacting you in the very near future".

LOL. That was fairly clever. Obviously, it called for the classic "If I tell you, I'll have to kill you" remark so beloved by the wanna-be crowd.

:neener:

I don't really see it as anything more than a lame joke.

On one hand his comment "irked" you. The flip side, you didn`t want ot complain cause he`s a regular guy. You are laid back. So let it go.

It`s like being as closet complainer. Tell all but the guy who irked you. I know we are all different in how we think but some time/place we have to speak up. J s/n.

'You're not all part of a sleeper cell are you?'

If we are, do we get a discount??

I would have considered it clever and light-hearted.

It's sad that many Americans now consider being offended and making a stink about it a career choice.

First brush, I would probably want to answer, sleeper cell heck, I'm with the Blair Mountain Memorial Militia, Woodchucks! But on second beat, would probably ignore it as a lame joke.

(Besides, real sleeper cells steal, bribe or extort ammo from the back door of a military or police armory. Waiting in line at Walmart? That's almost counterrevolutionary.)

It was just a bad joke.

Maybe he was even being sarcastic and showing support.

Don't seek/create opposition there's already enough of it.

This is what can happen when you go outside your house. Be careful out there.
