"Bill banning assault pistol is introduced"

Looked it up on the internet, I was not impressed with its looks, caliber, or magazine capacity.

The loonie magpies squaking for its need to be banned are likely the best advertisement the manufacturer will ever see and literal thousands will sell like hotcakes. After a time many will be traded in for some good old pig iron handguns that we all love and they will just be a fad to most. Assualt pistol in a pig's eye.......How about assault pool cues and assault beer bottles as well as wifey's assault rolling pin in the kitchen?

My house shoe is an assault weapon as far as the dogs are concerned. :cuss:

You know, if FN lowered the price to $500 or even less, and found a way to get the ammo mass produced, the five seven will sell. And put a better trigger pull on it.

I bet they could sell these things for $300 if they wanted to.

Banging my head against the wall makes me feel much better

Just a comment on your support for the ban on the 5N7 handgun-

With publically legal ammunition this handgun is nothing more than a .22. Only with the illegal armor piercing ammo, that is also available for almost any handgun, can the 5N7 pierce a standard kevlar vest.

Any common deer rifle can penetrate a standard vest. Arrows, knives, screwdrivers and other common tools can too.

Knowing that you are an intelligent and thinking individual, I'm accusing you of having a more diabolical agenda with regard to this issue.

Please drop the smokescreen and speakly plainly and truthfully to the people whom you represent.

Doesn't this pistol have the same basliscs as the .22 magnum?

So when is NYC and NJ going to call for a ban on the Automag II and TC barrels and revolvers chambered in .22 mag?

-Bill

Ok, a friend of mine who going to become an officer brought his Class 3 vest out to the range one day so we could see what the different calibers did to it. I brought along my 40 S&W, .357 Mag, .41 Mag, & .44 Mag & he had a 9mm & .45 ACP. Autos has FMJ and Magnums all had Hornady XTP. Covered most of the popular calibers one may encounter. 9mm & 40 S&W pretty much would leave nice welts, but you would recover. .45 ACP left a mark and would most likely hurt longer, but recoverable. .357 Mag left a baseball sized mark and punched a hole in the 3/4" ply behind the vest. .41 Mag, softball sized and we had to dig the bullet out of the vest that looked like shattered glass where hit. .44 mag did practically the same thing as the .41.

I don't think that anyone wearing a vest is going to be able to survive the kind of trauma that a Magnum would inflict. It would break every bone behind it and not to mention the force shock it would send into the body.

That depends. Chances are the wearer would survive but he will be out of combat and will be in bad shape for a while.

I'm waiting for the day that they try to ban the CZ52.

I've known of several people trying that little spitfire out on Kevlar only to find out it punches straight through.

Is that only with the steal core ammo? Or does standered ball punch though? I may get a CZ52 before they call for banning that too.

-Bill

The vests are a bit better than you may think.

IIRC the developer and manufacturer of the Second Chance Body Armor used to give a demonstration of the effectiveness of his product by shooting one of his vests at about center of mass with a .44 Magnum. He was wearing it at the time. Spectacular bruises but no other ill effects.
:what: :what: :what:
HISTORY (from Second Chance Website)
Second Chance president Richard Davis founded the concealable body armor industry in the early 1970’s when he was awarded the seminal patent for soft and wearable undercover body armor.

Davis went on to shoot himself almost 200 times to prove the effectiveness of his invention, and the company has now recorded over 935 independently documented SAVES---law enforcement officers whose lives were saved because they were wearing a Second Chance bullet resistant vest.

I've noticed a few unanswered questions in this thread.

1. The SS190 is the restricted LEO ammo
2. SS192 is the discontinued ammo that will punch through a level 2 vest. A CZ52 will do the same and I've heard that certain hot 9mm rounds will too.
3. SS196 replaced SS192 and its performance is yet to be evaluated.
4. The balistics of the SS190 and SS192 are considerably better than .22 Magnum. One report stated that a man shot with one had his heart cut in two. A one-shot stop.
5.FN would sell a lot more if they dropped the price. FN already owns Winchester, so ammo production wouldn't be an issue if demand was higher.

I wonder when these "tough" New Yorkers are actually gonna stand up for themselves?

The way I heard this is that he used to put a thick book under the vest before shooting.

What don't you guys understand?!

They are not "banning" anything! They are only "restricting" from the hands of the criminals(this meansyou and I..... Americans with no criminal record)....It is for your own good.... You know this right? If this was not restriceted to the hands of the Law enforcement and government agents, who are no doubt endowed since birth with super human attributes and are the only ones qualified to wield these righteous bolts of lightning from Zeus, then you would flip out and cause such uproar and tumult with the little 5.7 as to cause the general fall of society..... How dare you people not be smart enough(like all of our law makers and officers are  ) to see this as a threat..... :cuss: The fact that you don't see this as a threat just qualifies the statement that you are not as smart as they are and therefore need protecting from yourself.......Take any banned item and this FLAWED logic is still at the root :cuss: :(

The lawmakers said there is no legitimate reason for members of the general public to own the gun _ you wouldn't buy it for hunting, for example.

I can think of at least one civilian down in Tyler, TX a few days ago that had a "legitimate reason" to have one of these. If he had, Mr. Wilson would probably still be with us.

Michael Barnes, ... snip ... The NRA did not immediately return a telephone call for comment.
What do they mean by "immediately"? Where they trying to slip something past the reader? What did the NRA say? If the NRA did call back, but late, how could they fit the word immediately in, but not their comment?

Michael Barnes misses the point. I have a right to own the pistol regardless of whether or not it can punch through light armor, not to mention many other firearms would make short work of a vest. On top of that police do not like the round because it is too weak. [/end preaching to the choir]
