We went to the range last night and my wife suggested that I 'try' shooting .45. I said sure.

Now my second gun will more than likely be an ATI FX Titan. ANd I will definately get into reloading, hardcore. Casting and swaging .45 ACP will be about the only way I'll be able to afford to feed that monster. :)

Funny, I've had five 1911s and none of them worked right or shot as well as my other weapons. I guess I'm stubborn but I keep on trying. A few weeks ago I bought a American Classic II. The bug has finally bit me. It works and shoots great! It is so danged smooth. Now I want more. Danged 1911s.

I recently traded for a Kimber tactical Custom II. Its my first 1911, hopefully not my last. I had to trade out some mag followers so they wouldn't scratch the feed ramp. I have enjoyed shooting it, its very accurate and cycles mostly well. I think the new mag followers have gummed things up just a little.

If I were to get another I would consider a RIA Tactical.

Careful, they tend to multiply.....

Yes folks, remember to get your 1911s spayed or neutered.

My first 1911 was a Kimber Classic Custom, purchased about a decade ago, worked flawlessly. I resisted the urge to buy another 1911 until two factors overwhelmed my iron resolve: the world of reloading and the Rock Island Armory debuted at the incredibly tempting price of $289 new.

I currently have only two and I think I'm good for a while, but I can certainly understand the desire for more. They're easy on the eyes, fit well in most mitts and usually possess triggers that can spoil a man.

It is contagious

I started buying 1911's 3 years ago and am up to 12 as of yesterday.
Two tarus PT 1911's in Doutone finish.
Two kimber Ulras, one Blue One SS
Two Kimber Eclipse Pro's one with target sights
Kimber Tac Pro II
Rock Island Comp Tac
Rock Isand Tac 9
GSG 1911 22
S&W Enhanced 5" (on layaway)
Springfield Armory Ultra Compact V10 (on Layaway)

After 5 decades of using revolvers, I am considering getting a 1911 figuring they may have the bugs worked out by now!

Anyone have a report on the Para USA GI Expert?

The bugs were worked out before production of the original military 1911's. It took modern makers to screw it up. ;)

Casting and shooting .45 ACP 1911's are a match made in heaven. :)

I've heard mixed opinion on the Para GI Expert. The stories
about their customer service scared me away from one.

When I bought my American Classic II there was also a ParaOrdnance in the case. I compared the two and the Para wasn't something I would spend my money on. Maybe and older one but the new one I saw was seriously lacking in fit and finish.

Although I own many guns, I too just ordered my first 1911, a S&W E Series, bobtail, SS slide. Should be here in 30 days. I am anxiously awaiting the gun. Trading my S&W 340PD with CTC laser grips.

the bite of the .45 bug is severe.. it is habit forming..

I started with an old AMT in the 80's went through 3 Colt's before having to sell to pay for a divorce...

Now it's started back with a Springfield loaded that caught my credit card..

I'd say I'm in remission though.. the .45 bug is nothing compared the the dreaded AR disease..

Do not buy the para

THE ACII ROCKS. By the way. i went to Chip McCormick thin grips on mine. I stopped carrying my kimber until i got the same grips on it.

I got bit by the 1911 45ACP bug amd have 2 of them and I am not buying another, until i find a nice compact that i can use for deep concelment.

Reloading if buy your bullets (lead) from MBC will run you about 7 bucks a box, if you use recovered brass.

Skinny 1950 1911--2011 One hundred years and still going strong.

Kind of my rationale for getting one in the first place.

Wolfebyte the bite of the .45 bug is severe..

Oh, I have been bit! I have two 45 ACP handguns, both S&W N frames, one 6 1/2" M25-2 and the other is a 4" skinny barreled N frame I built back in the 80s. I was just wanting to see if the 1911 platform was all it was cracked up to be. Fortunately for me, the itch has passed. I am not comfortable with the self loading platform and will stay with my revolvers. So it is a win/win. I have revolvers with which I am comfortable and there are more 1911s out there for those of you who prefer them.

A few weeks ago I bought a American Classic II. The bug has finally bit me.

Me too! I pick up my ACII today.
It's my first 1911 & I'm pumped about it!

After a thorough cleaning I'll be at the range either tonight or tomorrow (or maybe both) :D

I got my first one this year, but I had a Ruger P90 first.

What you have to figure out is whether you really like the cartridge, or the 1911 platform.

1911s are nice, but not my favorite 45. So far my favorite 45 to shoot is my CZ 97B. Softer-shooting, higher capacity, and probably just as accurate. I also liked the HK USP better, an EAA Witness Elite, and would call it a tie with my old Ruger P90. The 1911 trigger is better, but the P90 was loads less ammo sensitive.

Anyway, the main thing with 1911s is to make sure they "like" the ammo you're feeding them. Stock 1911s tend to like full-power, 230 gr. ball ammo.

As for reloading, you don't need to jerk around with casting of your own bullets to save a load of money. Even buying plated bullets, I load 45 ACP for about $10 a box. Check my signature link if you want tips on getting started in reloading.

I've had many 1911's over the years. I just picked up a new Ruger SR1911 for $620. Wow what a sweet piece. It's got it all and shoots 1 inch groups at 25 yards all day. Check one out!

Not in my hands it wouldn't.

A well built 1911 is capable of some excellent accuracy, that's for sure. I've heard great things of the SR1911 so far.
I can usually pull together some 3" groups at 25 yards with some regularity out of my Kimber if I do my part, but I'm aware it's capable of far better. It's the Indian and not the arrow, I guess.

But hey, I'm still working on it.
