Black Powder Substitute

Hi from a wet U.K. I will be coming over to Arizona again in November to use my 1858 NMA Pietta up the range. I have been using, on previous visits Pyrodex powder which does appear to be a dirty propellent. I have looked on Cabella's web site and see there other powders available.
American Pioneer and Triple Se7en. Any advice on these types would be appreciated.
Also, how good are Pyrodex 30grn pellets.

English ..777 and App powders you mentioned are the cleanest ..and easyest to clean up after . APP is a little on the puney side ..and 777 is a little on the hot side compaired to real black or Pyrodex .use loose 3f powder in your revolvers and you`ll be glad ya did .
The Pellets work best in over head scoped fuel injected pyro burning 209 primmer poping sabot shooting Inline Rifles .

Welcome to cap and ball! You shoot, you get dirty. Even the targets get dirty if you're shooting at close range.

777 is a good Black Powder substitute but like Sundance 44 stated it is a little hotter than Pyrodex P or real Black Powder & if compressed a little too much can be a little finiky & possibly fail to fire.

If I can not get real Black Powder I usually lean twords Pyrodex P because it is close to the performance of Black Powder & is not as sensitive as 777.

APP is like mentioned a bit weaker than Black Powder & although is good powder I did not like the results that I had obtained with it & gave most of it away.

Hotter percussion caps help...lots of lube and goose grease keeps the fouling soft...

Yep, it is a dirty habit....
But the whoosh, boom makes it all worthwhile....

Hey English Phil:
APP does a pretty good job of keeping your gun lubricated. Still a little dirty, but it doesn't jamb up like Pyrodex.

GOEX Pinnacle is another sub that lubes good. Triple (7) is hot, you may not want to bother with it.

I'm not too good of a shot, but I enjoy getting in lots of shooting with APP.

Thank you for all the replies, my mate in Arizona City is gonna see where he can get some of the powder mentioned. Will try it out and report back.

This is a photo of my NMA with bits and bobs, made the case out of a poker chip box. When I first started to use the lube out of the tube found it a bit messy, so transferred it to a cheap ketchup plastic bottle, works a treat.

The holsters and belt came from Cabela's... My right hand holster is called the "Leather Holster" specifically for Army/Navy Mods 51,60,61. It is a very good heavy duty holster with a snap trigger guard leather. Not to be confused with the longer Black Powder Holster for bigger guns.

The left hand holster is their Hickok Holster. It's okay, but I added an adjustable leather hammer thong (wide piece of Saddle String) to keep the gun in the holster. I use their 1 3/4" Garrison Belt with the holsters. It is made tough with large buckle loop snaps .

Oh; and Phil; You probably already know this, but,...The residue from the APP is a lubricant. You won't need to add any lube to your gun. Instead of a gummy sticky crud like you get from Pyrodex, you'll notice an oily substance after you shoot through a few cylinders.

English Phil, Real Nice Rem and Cyls. love the Tins...(loco weed, or wild woods weed) ( The Blowin' Higher I get) I'm about 4 1/2 hours from Kingman, AZ in Palmdale, CA. And be carefull out there...I know the English so watch the Sheilas dresses you blow smoke up don't have a fire hose.
