Have a few of those SA Rugers - the oldest being this 1976 Liberty Model SBH 44. The bluing is much better than my newer 357 BHs.

Love those SA Rugers!

My first one was a 4 5/8" Blackhawk in .45 Colt, Second 7 1/2" .44 mag Super Blackhawk. Got the .45 when I was 10 years old. Used to shoot out at my Grandpa's farm, on a recent visit I checked the range from the old fence post that we used as a rest to the bluff by the creek where we set out our targets. Coke cans at 150 yards with a 4 5/8" barell!

Boxhead - that is one hec of a collection of 3 screw models! Very , very nice! I would be pleased just to own one Old Model some day. Until then I'll have to make it with my meager collection of New Models!

You guys are seriously making the "civilian model" barrel length look more appealing...

Boxhead,

Wow :what:

I have had a few OM's in the past but traded and sold them off, the older I get the more convinced I am idiot. Had a really nice 4-5/8 OM .357 flat-top, traded it. I still have an OM single six .22.

Had an OM SBH, 7.5" barrel that had a mirror blue finish and one of the slickest actions on a SA imaginable, could shoot clover leafs off a sandbag rest with my pet handloads. My shooting partner bugged me to buy this gun for years. I finally gave in with the understanding I could have the first option to buy it back if he decided to sell. He and his wife split and he took off to Arizona, quickly. I think the OM SBH with the mirror blue finish is one of the absolute worlds best looking SA pistols, period.

Damn.

Thanks gents. The Old Model's are indeed fine guns. I suggest if you want one you grab it soon as prices have jumped a bunch in the past couple of years. I have a handful of customs as well on the Old Model platform built into just what I wanted. With three sons I want something special to pass on when, uh, I pass on. I am a single action nut for sure.

Glad I stopped by today...

Great photos everyone! I don't own one, but my father had one (blued .357) when I was a kid. At the time, I was still just shooting .22s, but he loaded up some wax bullets and would let me shoot it at a cardboard backstop in the basement!

Good memories. Thanks. :)

Boxhead, very nice collection. I just sent the SBH out to have the barrel shortened to 5" even and add some height to the front sight. Looking for the ultimate field gun, with my Skeeter .44 Specials and the SBH. If I were ever to come accross a 4 5/8" Flattop it is coming home with me, wife is already been warned. Bill

I have an "old model," unaltered, 4 5/8" bbl. .45 convertible (interchangeable .45 Colt and .45 Auto cylinders), and a Super Blackhawk with the safety conversion. This one needs some repairs (barrel turned back into frame, grip frame screw broken off) as well as a trigger job, as the pull is atrociously heavy. My brother had a Super that he bought new c. 1966, but the fool blew it up with a faulty handload. :fire:

steel, safe, confidence

Posts #1 and #17 make me yearn for one made of stainless steel.

The guy with the Vaquero was admitted to the club, now how about a member that carries his SBH - CCP?

Mostly in the winter; in an El Paso pancake. It's comfortable that way.

Oh, and I don't mind the transfer bar, but would not tolerate a safety mechanism. No thank you.

here's my .45 Colt Blackhawk. I'm thinking of picking up a 4 5/8" blued one to put my ivory grips on. I was wondering, where do you guys get the Bisley grips to turn the Blackwawk into a "BisHawk"? Thanks guys.

I just got my new 4-5/8" .41 Mag. I'm pretty tickled with it, but I think I'll need to replace the checkered rubber with some nice wood. That checkering just doesn't let it roll with the recoil the way it should.

Here's my newly acquired, pride and joy, 1957 Blackhawk .357 Flat Top

I've got a bunch of other Ruger six guns, but this is the oldest and coolest;)

1983

When I got my first 7.5" .45 convertable. Still my favorite revolver.

that guy is good. Really like that flat top
Bowen and Clements do good work and treat their customers right

Can I play? I'm the still relatively new owner of a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag in stainless steel with a 5.5" barrel.

I'd wanted one for a while, but was surprised by how much pride of ownership these things confer. I felt like I really got my money's worth out of this gun. It somehow manages to simultaneously feel like a solid chunk of steel and a fine piece of precision machinery.

After owning a Single-Six, I couldn't help but grin when loading .44 Mags.

I'd read that recoil control is aided by the shape of single-action grips, but I was still surprised at how much recoil the Super Blackhawk soaks up. Provided one doesn't choke up on the grips, factory loads (240 grains at 1,180 FPS) are comfortable and even Buffalo Bore's bear irritation rounds (305 grains at 1,325 FPS) can be shot without pain.

What a great gun.

I'll jump in here too...

I have 2 old models in very nice condition - a SBH .44, and a BH .41. I also have a new model SBH SS 5.5" unfluted cyl. They are all great guns. I shoot the NM the most because I want to keep the condition of the OMs up, but I do shoot them all - my favorite is the OM BH .41. I will post up pics tonight.
