Blue engraved 1858 with stag grips

Just for the look :












It is a 2006 manufactured Uberti with adapted grips from "gungrip" .

Some shooting, 2 handhold with rest at 25 meters


- 12 balls cal.456 150gr, 15gr BP, cornmeal and crisco (this was the first 2 cylinders so the groupment can improve)

- 6 bullets LEE cap§ball 200gr, 30gr BP, 10gr cornmeal

- 6 bullets 45 Long Colt 250gr, 30gr BP

The barrel twist is fast and hence the bullets are stabilized . As for the 45 Colt, it is difficult to push them straight in the chambers although I use a loading press. It can explain the poor groupment and also the gun is more difficult to handle....

Anyway a lot of fun to shoot with either loading

No idea what sort of load he used but a friend used to use the same 200 grain LSWC bullets he cast for his .45 auto in his Remington. Oddly enough he loaded them backwards and claimed they were more accurate in the Remington that way. WHen you finished seating the bullets it looked like you had a cylinder full of full wadcutters.

You might look around to see if someone has posted instructions an load suggestions for that.

I suppose 185 grain LSWC might work as well.

Still look it up somewhere before experimenting as I have no idea what problems you might encounter trying either.

I would not load a SWC backwards if I were you because you could encounter a possible issue like when you load the Picket Bullet backwards in the Walkers "I've read somewhere that it was one of the possible reasons of them exploding, I'll have to do some searching."

It'll will be interesting to see you ball groups with heavier powder loads. My Pietta's shoot tighter with 30 gr. BP

Damn good lookin' Remington...those Stag grips look good with the engraving.
I never really cared for Stag till I saw yours. Thinkin of a pair for my S.B. engraved rem now.

Did you rework them yourself to fit the different contours of the frame or did you have it done? Very nice job in either case.

Also, are they genuine Sambar or the like, or synthetic? The main reason I ask is because genuine stag, especially Indian Sambar, is very difficult to obtain here in the US now and subsequently quite expensive.

Very elegant, but too dear for my budget presently.

Hello,

I have reamed the chambers to accept 45 colt 0.451 bullets .

Shooting two handhold at 25meters with (almost) full load of BP :




The only problem is that when shooting heavy bullets, the POA is one foot lower compared to balls...............
