Hi all,

I am looking for a new or used 9mm semi-auto pistol, but it has to be blued metal finish, not matte or polymer. What are my choices? Do you have any first-hand recommendations? All I can find so far (new anyway) is the Browning Hi-Power Standard. I do love the looks of this gun, but never fired it. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Chris

Depends on what size gun you want. I have become a fan of the Kel-Tec P-11. It is a small 9mm and very reasonally priced, 11 round capacity, 10 + 1 DAO only. It is about as small as you can get in a 9mm, which means it recoils firmly. The trigger pull is long and takes some getting used to. It is a durable pistol in my experience, and has a lifetime factory warranty and the factory has a good reputation for fixing problems.

All steel? The Browning Hi Power, CZ75B, Walther P-5, and HK P7M8 are all offered in a blue finish.

Best combination of price, quality and performance - the CZ75B hands down.

The ergonomics seem very similar to the High Power, but the trigger DA/SA is far superior to my P35

Look for a S&W 5904 or 6904 depending on what size you're looking for. I carried both as issued for several years and I carry my 6904 as my retired carry. They are extremely reliable and you won't wear it out. They can be found at pretty reasonable prices on the used market and there are plenty of holsters out there for them.

if i have to carry a semi auto "blued gun", the S&W 3914, or 3954 would be my choices.

Didn't say anything about alloy frames. Ruger P series P89 is a good gun in a duty double stack size weapon. Can't argue against the CZ or the S&W, though. I think I'd want a stainless in a 3913, but that's just me. Excellent, concealable little autoloader. I really had the hots for that gun when I wound up buying a Kel Tec for carry some years ago. The KT has been a fantastic gun, but I still sorta have a longing for that 3913.

Find yourself a Smith & Wesson 39-2 floating around on one of the gun auction sites- they're no longer made. Best ergo's I've found for a 9mm, other than the P7M8, and pretty damned accurate as well...

Steel slide, alloy frame...

Sig 226 in their Nitron finish is quite a gun, CZ for value in either 75B or 85 Combat iterations. If you like a S/A gun the Hi-Powers are good values as well.

Take Care

Ummm... I thought he said blued?

Blued guns are getting harder to find. I know that the BHP (as you mentioned), as well as the CZ75, some S&W models, and some Taurus guns.

Some of the other ones mentioned -- such as SIG and Ruger -- are not blued, they're their own special matte finish.
