Richland County Sheriff's Deputy shot multiple times
(Columbia) November 19, 2006 - WIS has learned that an off-duty Richland County Sheriff's Deputy has been shot three times in Blythewood.
According to Lieutenant Chris Cowan of the Richland County Sheriff's Department, Corporal Larry Pain was shot on Langford Road in Blythewood.
Cowan says Cpl. Pain and a constable were riding ATV's in a Blythewood field while off duty when they came upon a man and a woman. After talking to the couple, Cpl. Pain and the constable learned they were operating a meth lab.
In the subsequent confrontation several shots were fired at Pain, who fired back. After Pain was hit the couple got into a car, wrecked, got out and ran away on foot.
Cpl. Pain was taken to Palmetto Health Richland, according to Cowan. His current status is unavailable.
A massive manhunt for the couple has been set up, encompassing a two-mile radius. Authorities are looking for a white female wearing a white jacket and blue jeans, around 30-40 years old, and a white male with long blonde hair wearing blue jeans and a camouflage jacket.
Authorities have also expressed a possibility that the two people have changed their clothes since the incident.
WIS will continue to post updates as they become available
