I'm sure this has been answered here (or somewhere), but alas I can not find it. I have recently come into ownership of a 1944 SA Garand. It's in overall great shape (just needs a new stock, and some barrel work), but I would like to update various items on the rifle and was curious if the Beretta BM59 was overall compatible?

Before any of the M1 Garand "purists" start on me for even thinking of mixing or matching parts (a travesty I am sure), I only need a honest and straight forward answer. Not to sound rude, but I've seen the back-lash users have thrown at others for even suggesting cosmetic change. FYI - I do not plan on physically modifying the rifle, I just want to get it up and running. It's true I'd rather own a magazine fed M1A, but this is all I've got. It was given to me by my father in law, and it was given to him by his faither in law (sort of an odd family tradition I suppose).

Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

magazines and muzzle brakes I understand, but others...??

I probably should have been clearer, but I probably got lost in my rant trying to keep the M1 Garand crazies out that I could have explained it all better.

The "few parts" you stated, those are the ones I am curious about. I could tell the muzzle brakes would fit, and I have no intention of physically altering my Garand (ie- magazine conversion), but some of the small inner parts, or even the stock itself...... those are the items I am more curious about.

It seems as though the availability of SA garand parts and BM59 parts are limited to 5-10 respectable websites. But if you combine the two groupings, it gives me an overall larger plate to shoose from (say compared to AR-15 parts..... which are freakin everywhere).

Thanks for the input, but if you or anyone has more specific advise it would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't understand the point of what you want to do.

Any BM 59 parts that fit are going to be identical to M-1 Garand parts.

Things like the rear sight, trigger group, etc. should interchange, but they really won't be an "upgrade."

Now, if that folding stock for the BM 59 would fit the Garand, yeah, that I could see. I don't know if the stock does interchange though.

upgrade = anything new to make it function

Using BM59 parts is only an option in case the parts are cheaper or in higher abundance.

It's also good to know the BM59 stocks can fit the M1 Garand. I may take this into consideration when upgrading the stock.

Considering that there were many, many, more M-1 Garands made then BM-59's I find it doubtful that BM-59 parts are going to be easier to find or cheaper then M-1 Garand parts. M-1 Garand parts are relatively easy to find. If you can't find any on the web, buy a copy of "Shotgun News" and read through the ads and you'll find several sources.

It's also good to know the BM59 stocks can fit the M1 Garand. I may take this into consideration when upgrading the stock.

The picture Gunfighter posted is a BM-59 stock on a "M-1A" which is a M-14 clone. The M-1A is NOT the same thing as the M-1 Garand. Just because the stock fits a M-1A/M-14 does not mean it will work on a Garand.

(I do not know myself if a BM-59 stock will work on a Garand or not, but just because it fits on a M-1A doesn't answer the question either).

all over it, and thanks!

It's not that I can't find M1 garand parts, I just wanted to know (for my own information) if the BM59 parts would work without question. Just in case I ran across a few, and it was "more cost effective" to purchase the BM59 parts in lieu of orginal (or after market) Garand specific parts.

Granted it's true, and I'm sure my "true colors" are shining through....... more stock options would be nicer! I wanted to know if BM59 (new, used, new evil black versions.... whatever) would be compatible with the ole M1 Garand. I know the photos supplied were not of a Garand in a BM59 stock. I assumed the poster was showing his "toys", and was simply informing me of the latter.

Still it would be nice to know (or see) if the BM59 pistol grip style stock would fit an original Garand. It's a shame there aren't cheaper tactical stocks available (just for fun mind you, as I have my wooden one at the ready!) for the Garand. I know it's a sin to even mention the idea, but curiousity has peaked my interests. Thanks for the info Trebor.

Also consider that the Italians are returning a lot of the Garands they used after the war and a lot of those will have Beretta replacement parts.

Most all Garands went through at least on arsenal refurbishment, and have non original parts. Those that do have all the original parts are rare and bring a premium.

The CMP stuff is just about all mixmaster. Not really that big of a deal, there is a strong community out there that tries to swap parts so that their rifles have at least the make and model of parts that could have been original to their particular gun.

So that is not as much a travesty as you might think.

Do with it what you wish to make it fit your needs.

good advise!

Thanks Acera, good to know and good advise!

Mr. Watt, thanks for the link!

This is what I love about forums so specific too ones needs. You post your problem, and you generally get a good amount of feed back helping your situation. In any event, I feel as though my questions have been answered, and appreciate the lack of sarcasm and "witty" responses regarding my Garand questions. Other threads have been less kind in comparison (haha).

Again thanks for all the help. If I get a finished product up and running that appears "unique" or photo worthy, I'll upload it.
