This is a bizarre question.

The United States was founded on the principle that the people have a right to life, liberty, and all that jazz. Body armor is a strictly defensive tool with the sole purpose of defending life. It causes no harm, creates no risk, has no impact on anyone but the wearer ... and those who attemp to deny the wearer their right to life.

The only argument for outlawing the use of armor by ANY group is the theory that the group has less right to live than other groups.

I refuse to accept that for myself.

My guess is that, the States who have added the 'aggravated felony' element in their statutes, have a concern about 9mm and .40 S&W doing the job, if necessary.

xbox360: the possession/purchase of body armor is not illegal. It's what you do with it, just like a rifle/gun (well, not just like). Please find me a cite to any federal or state law on that one.

Who knows, though, how dumb folks will get, and how far this will go, attributing evil character to inanimate objects, as they do to guns. Maybe we should all drive those little water-powered mini-cars too, because the more faster ones help you git away too quick. :)

I owned body armor when I was an armed security guard and sold it in the classifieds when i got a better job

I am amazed at how many people can type, yet not read.

I guess an OP cannot request a thread be locked. I am tired of the I only know how to type not read forum members accusing me of trying to take thier armor away. I was just wondering if *I* should buy any and I couldnt think of a reason why.

Some of you gave insightful reasons, most of you are accusing me of being sarah brady... idiots.

It is a problem when you ask a question that does not answer what you now say is your concern but does directly tie into (and seems to fish for support of) a recent Brady effort.

If you have a question like "should I buy ___________?", ask it.

I train all the time with my body armor. It only takes me about half an hour to get into (without help), so I'll be all set if someone ever breaks into my place!

I guess I dont understand how someone would accuse another THR member of being a brady... I mean I have not been here long, but I try and contribute and ask reasonable questions.

Fair enough.

Re: Brady accusations... there are several well funded anti-gun organizations that present themselves as hunting or sporting groups. They attemp to use the angle of, "we're the legitimate traditional gun owners and we say guns are bad so you know they must be..."

Re body armor: I think it's a waste of money for most people. Training or good old fashioned range (and gym) time will do you more good. That said, I would buy one of the discrete "fashion clothing" style jackets/coats if - didn't have better uses for the cash.

I won't respond to the Q. directly

I will say that where it is legal, I think it makes sense to own. When I worked private protection, corrections etc. I wore it. When at the range with newbs I wore it. When strolling the hood at night, I wore it. You may not see the first shot coming. A gun is no good if you are already dead. Nuff said.
