Boker knives- any good?

Probably should have posted this question before I bought this thing, but...

I was at Bass Pro Shops today shopping for several things. While there I decided I wanted another knife (actually, I've had that in mind for a while, but I didn't decide for sure to buy one until I got there). At first, I had in mind another defensive folder. I have two, but one was one of those $4-5 gun show knives so I don't really trust it and it is good to have a spare or two in case something happens to my good knife (a Kershaw Scallion). Well, looking for a little while and handling a few there were some nice knives but none really did it for me. Several of the fixed blade knives on the other hand kind of attracted me so I decided to go with something less practical. I'm not a hunter and here in MD only folders are legal for defensive carry (actually, looking at the law that is more of a "loophole" as only "penknives" are legal and folders fit the definition of "penknives" but it appears, at least to this non-lawyer, that the law intended no knives which are "weapons" to be legal). Anyway, this knife is really just because I want it and for show, not for any real utility (though it may come camping with me if I can stand the possibility of it getting scratched up).

Anyway, I checked out several that I liked (I was so close to picking up a "USMC" Ka-bar, though I think I'll buy one off the web with the Army seal instead) but the one in my price range that I really liked was a 4 1/2" Boker "Bowie" knife (not quite a Bowie, the right shaped blade, but way too short) with a stag handle. It does have a stainless blade. Anyway, my question is how good a knife is this? Also, anyone know anything about the company and its history?

Edited for spelling, that's what you get when you post at the hour I posted this.

Boker makes quality knives. They are made in Germany. Had a wood handle folder years ago, wish I didn't trade it.

Boker is a great company. ;)

They make very good knives indeed. If you find one in your price range that fits your hand, by all means get it. Good stuff.

I'd like to get a Boker Combat Smatchet. I got the chance to handle one of the limited-edition ones with linen micarta handles, and man was it a nice piece of work.

Boker is a good knife company, but all their knives are not made in Germany (not that that matters much). The problem occurs when you get a Boker Magnum line knife that is made of 420J in the People's Republic of China. While the PRC is leaping forward in knife product quality there are still challenges in ensuring that the PRC-made knife meets the best quality we expect from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Germany, Italy, or the USA.

Their slipjoints and traditional lockbacks are nice. I wouldn't have any of the other stuff they make.

I have a Boker Brend tactical folder, A very nice knife with a 440 s/s blade lock up is very good. got to love german craftsmanship:D

I'm pretty sure some of their stuff is made in Argentina these days, and I think I own one. Or two. Looked around but couldn't find them, and I've never used them, anyway. See, wasn't that helpful?

It looks like (from the documentation that came with the knife) that they are made in Argentina or Germany these days. Mine is German.

I've had a Boker "Bantam" for years...

It's a great folder. Little dimple in the side of the blade where the hardness was checked. Aged stag scales. Nice. However, I hear a lot of complaints in regards to the quality of the "new" Bokers. Even at my regular knife shop. It's unfortunate. He's even refused to stock any of the new Bokers. Shame when a company goes downhill like that. I wish I'd purchased more..."back when".
