Bolt action - 308 vs 30-06

For a hunting rifle i would go .308 win because there are times when you may need to shoot more than once. Since the case is shorter it offers quicker cycling of the action. I have never thought i was undergunned with a 150 grain bullet from a .308win. At that weight range the 30-06 and 308 win are equal in factory loadings. The -06 does have the advantage with heavier bullet weights. I have killed deer with a ar-15 with 62 grain bullets so i know you wont be undergunned with a 150 grain .308. Most deer taken are within 150 yards anyway. But for the long range paper punching get a different rifle. Go with something with low recoil but super ballistics like the .260 remington. Go lightweight rifle for medium range hunting to 300 yards. Most average hunters shouldnt shoot more than 300 yards anyway. Not to say that some of you with years of practice cant shoot further....i said average hunters!!! not to start an argument. Personally i use an AR-10 so cycling of the action for multiple targets is automatic. With a 3 doe a day bag limit in my state i like my caliber gun combination :D
