Bolt Action Squirrel Rifle

Go with the CZ. They make great 22 rifles. The Marlin, Savage and Ruger are not even in the same class.

Don't Limit Yourself

I have 10/22 with a nifty scope that shoots the whiskers off of gnats at great distances, but I also have a Marlin Mod 80 that my father won on a punch board during WW2 that will shoot the gnats off of squirrel whiskers. It has open sights and is stock from it's nose to its toes, and it shoots into a really small hole, depending on me. I also have a Rossi/Win 06 pump clone that I can pop shotgun shells at 30-40 yds on the ground all day long holding the stock under my right arm next to my armpit. The secret is shooting a lot of rounds and getting used to hitting things by feel - it may sound flaky, but I dare you to try it. I am actually better with the Rossi than with the 10/22. It requires a place to shoot where you can plink on the ground, and they are not always available, but boy is it fun... :D

gotta throw another vote for savage mk ll (mines the FSS model)

extended bipod pic is a little blurry : (

I'm gonna have to go off the board and suggest the Remington Model Five in European Walnut... I have one, it's a great shooter, it's accurate, it is also one of the few new production rifle that has a fully adjustable rear sight. Oh yeah, and all steel where a lot of manufacturers are using plastic... yes, the trigger guard is metal!! Trigger is fully adjustable (with a little tinkering the first time around). standard 3/8" dovetail scope mount if you want to go that route.

The one in the middle...

a little closer...

Another option would be the Browning T-Bolt... (the bottom one with beautiful dark walnut wood). This is one GORGEOUS rifle... (and I got it NEW for less than a CZ...)

The Marlin Glenfield model 25 (top rifle in pics) is a nice little rifle too... (under $100) Although, the trigger could use some work...

Disclaimer: I love 22's... My next 22 purchase will be a CZ 452 American...

OKC man I am with you on 22 rifles. They are a lot of fun and cheap to shoot. You can spend a nice afternoon at a range with 22 rifles and pistols and have a great time with friends.

I did look and see that suppressors are legal to use in Tennessee on firearms for hunting. I'm good to go to use it on a rifle or pistol for rabbit or squirrel hunting. I can also use one when I go to Arkansas and hunt.

I have looked at the Browning T Bolts and I'd feel terrible for cutting the barrel on one of those beautiful rifles to get it threaded! Those are fine rifles. How much did that one cost you if you don't mind telling us?

Have you looked into the price of a suppressor? :what:

They're kinda pricey..............it's not just the tax stamp.

Suppressors for .22 have never been outrageously priced to me, but I think it is alot of hassle to get one and I just don't need to be that quiet. If I do want be to quiet I shot my old Marlin Model 100 with 22 shorts, hell my neighbor was outside the other day when I was shooting it in my yard and he couldnt hear it going off.

CDNN has the Winchester Wildcat (actually an import) for a good price right now, last I checked. Could be worth a look.

Otherwise, a CZ 452 or 453.

If you like fancy rifles, the Weatherby XXII (Anschutz in a fancy stock) is hard to beat.

Lots of good options, but for a new gun, I'd opt for a CZ. That said, I have two favorite squirrel getters. The bolt action (per the OPs interest) is a Remington 541T with a sporter barrel. The other, an over-and-under break action, is a scoped Savage 24 in .22mag/20 gauge. I find that I actually carry the latter more often in the squirrel woods; like the 20 gauge for rats up in the trees and the .22mag for shots with a good backstop..

ok im just going to tell my stroy on my 22. i saved for about a year and was specifically set on getting a cz 452 trainer. i saved up the exact ammount and i was so excited. i came home from school the very next day and went on to get info to order and that very day they changed raised the price to 300 something. i was so freakin mad! i ended up getting the savage mk ll FSS and it has been really great. either the cz or the savage im sure either will serve you very well.
