I have an Ishapore made rifle in .308, or rather 7.62 NATO. It's an Enfield type and was made in 1964 and seems to be in pretty good condition, from what I can tell. I can't seem to hit the broad side of a barn with the damn thing, but that aside it's fun to shoot. The thing is when I fire it, the bolt handle pops up about half way to the point where it would open. So, when I fire it I put my left hand under my right and hold the bolt down. I don't feel any pressure on my hand that would indicate that it wants to open on me when I hold the bolt in the locked position. Any suggestions on what the cause may be? Or how to fix it?

I'm not familiar with those rifles...but it sounds as if there is some wear on the lugs or the bolt itself (if the bolt works anything similar to a Remington bolt)

Possibly a weak firing pin spring too.

Remove and re-install bolt. On my .303, if it don't get that piece(name?) on the side of the front of the bolt to to engage correctly, the bolt dosen't close correctly and will pop up when I dry fire it.
kid

With your rifle unloaded, bolt closed and cocked. Grasp the cocking piece and pull the trigger. Let the cocking piece move forward slowly. Does the bolt handle still want to lift up on its own?

Sounds like worn lugs. On that note my 2a is a tack driver, no kidding.....

Lets see... My MK4 Land Lease Savage, Jungle Carbine and my Indian .308 all have CAI import stamps.
