Bond Arms

So what's the consensus on the new xl grip frame of theirs? I have the original frame with extended pinky grips added and I was surprised at how much that made a difference over the original small grips. So I can't help but wonder if the xl grips would be an even bigger improvement.

The XL grip probably is the best one. i got these grips which are very nice but pretty fat, almost too big in girth. Mine are of Ebay so not sure if they are the actual Bond grips or knock offs.

By XL you mean the B6 grips:

Yeah by xl mean the b6 grips.

One of the best deals is the Rowdy XL with a 3.5" .45/.410 barrel and B6 grips for only MSRP $349! And it takes 3" .410 shells too.

Oh man am I glad I asked. I thought you needed a whole new frame for those grips. I already have a rowdy with the original extended grip and I thought I had to buy a new rowdy with a different frame to get the xl grip.

I was just about to make that purchase when I decided to ask the fine folks here how they felt about those new grips. I am so glad I did, just saved myself like $250 😂😆

Smoking deals there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How many !!! points can I get into a post?!?!?! Really, great buys.

I just have a Stinger and am loving it. Not as inexpensive as yours but I appreciate the lower weight.

Question for all the Bond derringer users:

I am thinking of finally buying one of these, but I have heard so many mixed opinions on the trigger pull. Bond says about a 7 pound trigger pull weight on their website, which doesn't sound too bad. I know about the "back and downward" motion of the trigger pull which supposedly makes the pull easier.

So is the trigger manageable? Has anyone checked theirs with a trigger pull gauge? Thanks for any insight...

IMHO the Bond Arms Rowdy Trigger stinks. But this is due to the weird grip 🤔.

Precision shooting with a Bond derringer is iffy at best.

I bought a Bond derringer with the idea it would be a carry pistol while I was bush hogging the pastures. I was looking to dispatch small rodents from the field. But even with the 6 foot or so shooting distance from the tractor seat with shot cartridges, it was difficult to hit the prey.

But, as a short range "belly gun", it would excel in its desired task.

Search the forum and you'llm see my collection of barrels for my Bond Arms derringer. I have a 4" and a 6:" .410/ 45 Colt barrels for my Bond derringer (from my skeet days, I have beaucoup 2-1/2".410 ammunition).

I find it easier to pull on the models without a trigger guard (or if the trigger guard is removed from the others). I can get my finger positioned better and there's nothing to interfere with the downward motion of the pull.

The trigger is decent for what it is. A derringer intended for phone booth distances. The sights are regulated for the bottom barrel. You can get good at shooting it once you learn the gun's quirks. The trigger pull is very different. You pull down, not back.

With downward pressure the trigger on my Snake Slayer IV breaks consistently at 3 3/4 lbs as measured with an inexpensive Lyman spring gauge. Trying to pull straight back the pull weight increases to over 4.5 - 5 lbs. Cocking the hammer requires nearly 9 lbs of force. Grip positioning is a factor on the trigger pull - the higher you grip the gun, the more difficult it can be to get the downward motion needed for a lighter pull. Removing the trigger guard can make the downward motion a bit easier depending on your finger size.

People with smaller / weaker hands, like my wife, find it difficult to manipulate. She had trouble keeping a firm enough grip to cock it, and was done playing with it after one shot of .410 000 buck. Prior to shooting it she was enthralled with how it looked. I am sure she will never shoot it again.

When I lived in West by God Virginia, this gun with #6 bird shot carried in a shoulder rig and a long handled rake were my tools of choice when gathering wood from my woodpile. In Michigan, where I currently reside, it is my carry piece when cutting the pasture. It is not something that I, personally, would consider carrying for self-defense, I have better tools available for that purpose.

That bigger grip really makes a difference, at least with the .45-70. Compare the muzzle flip of the small grip on the American Derringer vs the larger grip on the Bond:

Shooting Illustrated April 2024 (page 47, top of right column) says that revolvers chambered in .327 Fed. Mag. can also fire ".32 S&W, 32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Magnum, and even the .32 ACP." Either they made a mistake or I can get a Bond Arms barrel in .327 Fed. Mag. and shoot my .32 ACPs out of it, though Bond says not to. It surely cannot be the pressure of the .32 ACP which is far less than the .327 Fed. Mag.

I have had mixed results with 32 acp in other 32 revolvers. Bond may say not to do it as the 32 is semi rimmed and it could (I am guessing) stress the extractor if that is all that it holding it in place. Or, they may slide in far enough to not fire which would almost be like dry firing the pistol (which they don't want you to do).

It is neat that some will fire a 32acp but just as easy to get the other milder 32 rimmed rounds and not have the potential issues which he acp may give you.

Now, I need to get them to make 327 barrels for the Al Stinger :)

You are right. With all those ammo options, there is little need to try .32 ACP. Well the first thing to do is chamber a couple of ACPs and see if they fit or not. If they can slide down in, no go.

So I got my .327 Federal Magnum barrel ordered (3"). Or course, I will have to try a couple of .32 ACPs in it--shhh! Don't tell Bond Arms. :D

Lucky Gunner gives a couple reasons not to do it in a wheel gun but this is a derringer so may be a bit different.

It will fit the case is the same diameter at the base and 0.05 MM narrower at the neck. Rim should be enough to keep it from sliding down into the bore. We will see once my new .327 barrel arrives.

Now to get some .327 Fed Mag and some .32 H&R Mag. Trick is can I find one supplier with both at reasonable prices. I already have about 300 rounds of the .32 S&W Long and couldn't care less about shooting .32 S&W shorts. But those .32 ACPs keep smiling at me and I have about 700 rounds on hand. :D

Tell me about your Stinger models?
The Stinger models have been out for awhile now. And I am wondering what the THR members/enablers thought about there Stingers???
