I use a very informal "lightbox" with a couple of small clamp on light fixtures with "natural daylight color" flourescent bulbs (got mine at Joanne Fabric) to provide ambient, indirect light. You can also drape a colored cloth over one or both lights to give a different effect.
Another Forum I'm on does Calendars every year, Members submit photos and a Poll is run to select the winners. Lots of really great pictures submitted every year.
