bought a shotgun on impulse today

Today I went to a gunshow. I went intending to by a rifle. But as the rifle I wanted was a little out of my price range, and I woke up this morning to the sound of geese flying within a stones throw of my bedroom window I ended up buying a shotgun. Which is very odd for me, because I am not really a shotgun person.

Anyway, I have never heard of this brand before, but it seemed to be good, just wondering if I bought something that is any good and what you guys think of it.

Its an 12 GA Escort Marienguard pump action with a folding stock. Their website is www.hatsan.com.tr

Its going to fill two roles for me really, goose gun and HD shotgun. HD being a minor role for where I live.

We have an escort in the yearly raffle at the club I belong to. I have handled it and it seems like an 870 look alike made in Turkey. This one did not have a folding stock. But it seemed pretty solid although the barrel is a bit tricky to get onto the gun. It extends quite a ways into the receiver. The pump release button is quite large and easy to get to with gloves on, which I like. I question how well a folding stock will work on a field gun for goose hunting. Let us know how you like it after a few range familiarization sessions.

The stock was both a selling point for me, but I also questioned it as a goose gun because of it. I have shot it a couple times, I find the stock very comfortable actually, more comfortable than some of my rifles. But I am sure more shooting in needed before I come to a conclusion.

I am not familiar at all with shotguns, this one came with a magazine plug(where I live its 2+1 for goose hunting), but I am not really sure how to use it, any tips?

The best tip I could give is to get in lots of practice at your local range. Find some knowledgeable shotgunners and have them advise you on proper technique. Then try shooting some clays to get the feel for lead and follow through. A rifle is carefully aimed, a shotgun is quickly pointed without looking at the bead which is why fit is so important. Where are you located? There may be someone from this board nearby.
