That’s awesome nushootr congrats! I enjoy shooting with all of my family. All girls! You picked a great gun to start out with and will no doubt provide many years of service for you. There is a wealth of knowledge available here as well as lots of other resources for everything from basic fundamentals to advanced training troubleshooting upgrades you name it. There is also a ton of aftermarket support for that platform. Enjoy and get out and do some shooting

I was finally able to pick up my Ruger 10/22 rifle today. Was very exciting for me, as it's the first firearm I've ever owned. I know it's just a plinker, but for my family and I, it's the beginning of the firearm journey and my son and oldest daughter were excited about it as well. I'm very much looking forward to getting the whole family comfortable around it, and eventually getting some pistols to practice with. Just wanted to share!
I am too lazy to read the whole thread but when I saw the title I just had to jump in to say congratulations. Enjoy your 10/22, it's a great first rifle. :)

I've been shooting mine for nigh on 30 years.

That is a GORGEOUS stock! Where did you get it, if you don't me asking?
Thanks. It's a Fajen stock that I bought from Midway USA many moons ago. They haven't been available for a long time.

However, Stocky's Stocks has a nice selection of aftermarket 10/22 stocks. The link is to their standard barrel options.

Nushootr;

There are not many objects that one can purchase that result in heartfelt praise and instant adoption into a new extended family. Welcome, brother shooter. Here’s hoping one day the rest of your immediate family can appreciate and revere the significance of your choice.

Yeah, I have one, too; stainless international model. The first one had to be sold in the 1970s to pay bills while in Veterinary College.

Thank you!! I keep forgetting to post a pic!!

Golly, with everyone posting pics of their 10/22s, I can't believe I haven't posted mine. That's a solvable problem, though. :D She's your basic, standard-issue 10/22, but she has killed many a soup can.

10/22 is GREAT choice for a first rifle. I actually have two of them. One of mine is the Charger pistol. I also have a Ruger Mark 2 with laser site. ALL of my grand kids learned to shoot with these. And, in fact, my second oldest is extremely fond of the Charger and Mark II. My oldest grand boy and I picked out the 10/22 and bought it together years ago. He is about to graduate college and enter the Army as a Lieutenant.

Don't underestimate your "little .22". It may just become a family treasure to be passed on someday. I hope that you have as many happy days with your kids as I had/continue to have, with mine.
