After a couple weeks of research. I finally bought a gun safe... Its a Fort Knox. I have to get the area cleaned out where we are going to put it. Also have to have some electrical pulled in for the lighting.

Now its time to figure out what to put in it aside from the few firearms I actually have.... all hand guns btw. :D

Working on buying my first shotgun & rifle.

Congrats. Everyone needs a safe. It's not only being responsible, it gives peace of mind. I still remember the proud feeling I had when I brought "my first one" home. I still have it. :)

Defnitely get the safe far enough from the wall to reach the electric outlet so you can plug wires into it, like the light and golden rod. Ask me how I know, especially AFTER I DRILLED AND MOUNTED MY SAFE TO THE FLOOR!!!

A couple things...

The safe company is delivering, un-boxing, installing & bolting down the safe. So, I know it will be done right. They also included a free dehumidifier (looks like a goldenrod, but its black). And they also are installing a lighting kit in the safe as well. We are having an electrician come and put in a receptacle early this week.

As far as the shotgun, Im looking for a HD shotgun. And maybe also use it at a range.

The rifle I am looking to buy is a .22 (looking at Marlin 60, 981t, 925, & Winchester 9422 Henry H001, and CZ 452 / 455 American or Lux.) The rifle will be used for target practice at the range. I want something nice that can be passed down to my son one day. An accurate, reliable workhorse.

Congrats on your safe purchase. There are many good ones, but I really like my Ft Knox.I bought a cheap lock box to place in mine, just to keep the important papers and stuff in the same place. Lightman

Yes! a safe is a MUST! It gives me peace of mind. Make sure it is anchored to the floor, like real good. It is also a good place for important papers and the like.

Anyone put prescription medicine in their gun safe? I was thinking that will most def keep it out of the hands of my son. and some rambunctious teenager family member who, have in the past "sampled" some meds without my approval, knowledge or permission.

Smart move on the safe, Ft Knox is a good one. I cant say enough good about my CZ 452, it'll go to my grandson one day. Think I'll get off here and go shoot it. :)

okie

If a pump shotgun is what you want, I'm sure you will hear many people tell you to go with the Mossberg 500, or the Remington 870. They're very similar, both very popular, and only have slight differences. Go hold one of each. Dont listen to the hype about either or...they're both great firearms.
