GA has been especially stupid about Zero Tolerance lately. :banghead:

I wonder where I can get a Glock pen? That looks pretty neat.

It is all just training. Repeat after me: "guns are bad, thinking of guns is bad, drawings or images of guns are bad, names of guns are bad. If all of those things are bad, then a toy gun itself is twice as bad!, and an actual gun beyond belief"

Do that from 1st grade until you graduate. Wait that might not be enough time, make that kindergarten. No even better pre-school, gotta start molding the mind of the collective as soon as possible.
When you grow up be a good boy/girl and vote to ban all those evil things your upbringing has shown you was wrong, and be shocked that some people are actualy still able to own such evil devices.

Glad I live and teach in an area that has a little common sense! Heck we talk about hunting and shooting in class. Not just in my class, but all over.

Heh. My nephew used to wear an NRA hat to school. When the "authorities" challenged him and told him he couldn't wear a National Rifle Association hat to school, he told them to look at his full name. Then he asked them to show him where on his hat it said "National Rifle Association".

Yep, his initials are N.R.A. :D

He was allowed to wear the hat (this is in the Denver area). :)

My wife claims she supports zero-tolerance policies. I brought this example to her attention and she says "It's just a pen."

Well, that's what zero-tolerance gets you: ZERO COMMON SENSE.

They aren't trying to raise free people, they are trying to raise slaves of the state.

Bingo. They haven't had anything to do with true education since the 1950's. They're about indoctrination. The recent moves to federalize schools haven't helped any. The governments have joined forces to ensure that the next generation of Americans are easier to control. That's what the metal detectors and security guards are all about, not to mention the "zero tolerance" policies.

My only hope is it just encourages more rebellion. But it's a very remote hope. The growth of home schooling and private schools is the one big glimmer of light in all this, and with few exceptions the "professional educators" (EED's, sociologists and union leaders) have fought it every inch of the way.

My college essay was on mainly shooting sports...I had very open discussions with many of my teachers and even my guidance counselor who used to shoot skeet. I really think its the few people in charge who lack this sense, not the majority of the staff.

It only takes one...

You have GOT to be kidding....

And you wonder why people actually think a gun will magically jump up and start killing people.

Some people take that whole "The pen is mighter than the sword" thing WAY too literally.

I've been wondering what these schools do about history books. Are they sterilized like this? Did Washington's army cross the Delaware holding flags and big tall flowers? What are they telling these kids about wars?
I don't have kids, but I know they will either go to private school (maybe better, but unlikely) and/or I'm packing about 1,000 grains of salt in their lunch every day that they can take with their public edumacation.

Get them while they're young. Zero tolerance: you do as we say, no questions asked or else... Grow up with that nonsense and a totalitarian regime doesn't seem so bad, right?

the school was just looking out for the kid's well being, I mean come on, its obvious the glock pen had bad ergonomics, now if it had SA inprinted on it then all would have been good.

lol, just messing guys

I'm a retired high school science teacher and get tired of the bashing of teachers and the public schools from some folks. There were some idiots among the administration and my co-workers but no more so than any other segment of the population.

I used to discuss bullet ballistics as an example when talking about gravity and gun recoil when talking about action/reaction (Newton's Third Law). Another teacher even used to bring his deer rifle into class and disassemble it in class when discussing machines and material strengths.

Things changed when the school shootings started. The state legislature reacted by passing a raft of ill-advised laws so they wouldn't be accused of doing nothing to "protect the children".

For example, one law stated that any student bringing a knife to school would be automatically expelled. An elementary student in a neighboring school brought a PLASTIC knife to spread peanut butter on her lunchtime sandwich and the school was required to expel her or risk losing their state funding. Luckily she was reinstated by appealing to the state and the DA that there was no intention to use it as a weapon.

There's a huge fear among some school boards and state officials of getting blamed or sued if a shooting or other school violence were to happen. That's led to a huge and poorly thought-out over-reaction in some places.

There's no big conspiracy among public schools to warp or indoctrinate kids. While there are some bad apples, the vast majority of people in public education work hard at their jobs for poor pay and I'm tired of hearing them get bad-mouthed.

Public Socialism Schools.

THE SCOCIALIST REALIZED THAT THE SCHOOLS WERE THE PLACE TO WIN.YES HISTORY BOOKS ARE BEING SOCIALIZED.PARENTS SHOULD CHECK OUT WHAT IS IN THE BOOKS."SOCIAL STUDIES" NOT CIVICS.MY COUSIN A TEACHER COULD NOT TELL ME WHAT WAS IN THE CONSTITUTION."NOT MY FIELD SHE SAID" THATS WHEN I LOST RESPECT FOR HER.YOUR KIDS ARE BEING BRAIN WASHED.WILL THAT AFFECT OUR MILITARY YOU BET!AND HOW MANY TROOPS WILL DIE BECAUSE THEY CANT SHOOT THE ENEMY.NOTE THE WORST STATES FOR GUN CONTROL IS WHERE THE GRATEST AMOUNT OF SCHOOLS ARE,MASS AND CALIF.:uhoh:-----:fire:--:banghead:

Did anyone read Bud Tugly's post? He makes some very good points and which dosen't take the easy road of claiming everything is a conspiracy. Sure it's silly and stupid, but it's an overraction partially brought on by people who want everything to be predicted and handled before it happens.

I'm glad to see that he made an issue out of it, its a shame it couldn't have gotten some media exposure though.
