Bragging Friend talks too much

Based on the OP’s story, I agree with most of the board that the friend is just sharing with other friends. Maybe the OP wasn’t the friend to share with? I don’t know.

Most of my gun friends know I am enthusiastic about the shooting sports, and most know I am open to sharing with them as they may need. I’m not a sucker for supporting unnecessary handouts, but I’ve given away more than a few bricks of .22’s during hard times to friends who were in need.

YMMV.

I have an embarrassing problem I need help with, asking for a friend.;):)

I have something to brag about that I really shouldn't, talking about a friend.;):)

You should have asked how much money he has tied up in that ammo. Money that is not earning him interest.

In terms of collectability and appreciation, ammo (in those quantities) is not like guns.

In late 2019 / early 2020 I bought cases of 9mm for $169 each. Fast forward 6 - 8 months and I sold several for $500 each...I'm no math surgeon, but that seems like a pretty good return. I've never had guns appreciate at that rate.

Sounds like he thinks he needs all that ammo and trusts his friends to share what he has stored up. That is all I read into it. Everyone has different ideas and thoughts about what to own and who to share it with. I live in an earthquake/tsunami zone, so I have what I think I need for multi-month survival. I have one friend that lives in the area that knows what I have and I know what he has.

Wife knows I carry as a generality, but never at a specific time. This is so that if we find ourselves in an "unpleasant" situation she will not react in a way that gives away the fact that I am carrying.

I'm a bit of a hermit, in that I rarely have people over to my house. Of the ones who have visited, I know most of them well enough to admit that I have guns. There are very few people with whom I would: (a) open the safes; or (b) tell them how much ammo I do have, or where it's located. Outside of my immediate family, the ones that I would do that for have generally been my friends for decades.

So, you're basically like every other married gun nut in the country. 😅
Oh, contraire! My Wife never cares what I spend for guns or ammunition. She has bought me for Christmas and Anniversary presents A Browning .30/06 BAR, a Colt .45 Nickle SAA,, a Glock 21, Ruger New Vaquero .45 Colt, SA Hellcat, and a .50 Hawken black powder replica. Never have an argument about money. They DO exist. Flip side is I have learned to say "That's nice, Honey When she spends $300.00 on beds for her Cat's.

I lived in Utah for a few years next door to an elder from the LDS. They believe in having at least 6 months supply of food. We had an extended power outage, he knocks on my door and asks if I have a manual can opener (remember no electricity) so he can open some canned food. We chat for a while and as I give him one (had several) casually mention while I didn't stock a lot of food I had guns and knew where I could find food. ;);) He smiled and said that he too had guns. That was the end of that conversation.:rofl::rofl:

I think if you live in a community of like minded individuals and families who all share common interests including guns then there's really no reason to worry too much.
On the other hand, if you live in a community of fear and distrust, you folks know the kind of places I'm talking about then I believe the following 'rule of thumb' applies.

He must just be getting started. My ammo supply is adequate, but my reloading supplies far outweigh that . I also would show no one as it's just asking for trouble

Not me. Wife has 4 CC permits and her own gun safe. She's a big supporter of my reloading habit.

I don't talk about that stuff with many people. One good friend, who is also a reloader, and I will talk reloading around the campfire. But I'm pretty quiet about that stuff. But, to each their own.
Why 4 cc permits?
