Good friends and guns

I had squirrels chew a hole in the fascia board at the corner of my house to get into my attic. This was after I has blocked all ways to get into my attic from outside. Squirrels are just down right evil.
My mother has been feeding the squirrels at her house and they are starting to get out of hand. But to tell you the truth, she loves to cook squirrels and I think it’s her plan to get me to come over and kill her a bunch of squirrels to cook. I love my mom.:)
Ha I just started feeding the squirrel population out here at my new house to fatten them up and attract friends for “dinner”.

Some people are like that. They just don’t put a value, other then dollars, on something given to them.

I certainly don't hold it against him. Once a gift is received, the recipient has every right to do with it as they please. Like you say, some people are like that. It's just not me. I can be a sentimental old cuss and I make no apologies for my "softer" side.

Hello Uncle Gunny ! Been a long time since our last rabbit hunt. You know the one where I lost my rifle in the river ? LOL
I gave away 5 guns myself in the last couple years. Can't take them where I am headed.
Shot a good many squirrels for the table in my youth. Always liked eating rabbit better. Have no desire to ever eat another tree rat in the future. Good posting, I like your way of looking at life and friends.

LOL The way things are starting to head being able to harvest and eat a tree rat might become a bonus. Hopefully this does not happen, but I still practice my shooting skills often just in case.;)

My neighbor had over $800 in damage to his truck wiring from squirrels.
My girlfriend's mom had her car's cabin air filter chewed into, and when they were driving to a doctor appointment, the little jerk popped out inside the car.
Girlfriend was driving, almost crashed, eventually the squirrel fled out an open window.
In retribution, I went out that weekend and popped a dozen red squirrels, same kind as what was in their car. Invasive species here, no limit. They both declined the stew I made.

Squirrels are indeed out to get us, just Google 'Foamy the Squirrel' and you'll see.

Squirrels are evil and out to take over the world, hell bent on world domination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They raid bird feeders, break into your attic and make nests, chew vehicle wires up. In general, they are little terrorists. They only act cute and innocent so that you let your guard down.

Who am I kidding. I let the wife feed them suckers. Though I do threaten to put'm on the grill every now and then.

Squirrels snuck into my gas grill though the rotisserie slots, built a nest and had babies. That was just rude of them.

I gave my sister my Hi-Point 995, because she and her husband lived up in the mountains of Utah and only had an Erma single-action clone with a broken trigger. I bought it on a whim because it was so cheap and used the same ammo as my P-11.
They just needed it more and I paid to ship it out to them a few years ago. It's taken some coyotes skulking around their chicken coop since then.

You are correct, the recipient can do whatever they want with a gift. But if I give a gun to someone that just turns around and sales it, they won’t be getting another one from me again. I have always viewed a gun as a special gift. You just can’t give a gun to anyone.

Gunny

I agree with that 100%. I have received several guns as gifts over the years, as well as given them away, and I hold them to be somewhat special in that regard and will never be sold or traded.

I picked black berries & mowed yards & dug ditches to buy one of those Revelation 22 caliber back in 1965.
I remember how precious the bullets were & even kept the empties.
Mine was mag fed, or clip fed as I said back then, could have been a single shot, been to long to remember. It was about 2 more years & I got one of those
Revelation 410 single shots, by then I just about lived in the woods after school.
Tried to keep them but money & decisions were hard back then.
Revelation, wow what a memory.
You did a good thing.

Good for you, Gunny! It feels good to give one (or more) away knowing it’s appreciated. And it feels great to see it again whenever we get together at the range! And since I have enough already, I honestly don’t miss them.

How did they taste?

For some reason, my wife takes a dim view of killing baby anythings, whether it is squirrels in the grill, or possums under the deck. I insure domestic tranquility by promoting the general welfare of animals that my wife thinks are "cute" but which are smart enough not to damage the house.

Rats and squirrels in the attic die, no discussion.

I bugged my twin brother for several years, trying to get him to sell me a Winchester 30-06 he had bought and refinished the stock on as it hadn't been taken care of by it's previous owner. Anyways, he passed away 3 years ago this Thanksgiving, and in his will was that rifle to be given to me. I have too many guns, I know, at least my wife says I have too many but that Winchester will be passed along to one of my sons, wouldn't sell it for any price.

Back to the squirrel topic, when my dad lived in southern missouri, the tree rats ate their way into his attic and made quite a mess. I love squirrels, their hind legs mostly, smothered in squirrel gravy on biscuits.

I've known Gunny for several years, did some trading with him, his act of generosity doesn't surprise me at all.
