MD_Willington,
I definately agree. There have been several places here in AL that said "WHAAAAT" when I called them on the phone asking if they would distribute a 3 page document outlining H.R. 1022. They had NO idea that this bill was out there. I faxed at least 3 gun shops my little document today. I hope to fax about 30-40 tomorrow.

OK, not HR1022 related... but,

(see my post #3 in this thread - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=259062 )

I showed her my post and instead of watching TV tonight, my wife and I brainstormed ideas for a gun safety awareness day at our local club.

For the day at the range we talked about having a gunsmith on site, instuctors, what we might advertise in the local paper, perhaps even seeing if the little radio station might put on a spot as a public service the day before. Having a 'smith on site will allow people to bring in their handguns if they don't have a license to carry. (Indiana law allows you to take your hangun for "repair" if you do not have LTCH, but I will check with the sheriff to confirm.) The goal would be to get the ear of those who don't normally think about firearm ownership and give them a positive experience with RKBA.

In addition to the day at the range she had a great idea of running a booth at the County Fair this year (still a ways off, I know) to hand out pamphlets that emphasize safety and what to teach kids along with the standard club info for those who might be interested in joining.

Some of my co-workers are bird hunters, though they own various firearms, I told them about HR1022 and they had no clue, one even said...

"Well I never got an alert from the NRA about it"

I'm not an NRA member, not even an American citizen, and I know about it.. jeez :cuss:

I'm definately going to talk with the guys down at the shotgun range...

I also encourage anyone in my area to go to the following shows and tell everyone about HR1022:

POTLATCH GUN SHOW, Sunday, March 11th, Elementary school gym. Call John or Wanda Milbert, 208-875-0253.

GUN- ANTIQUE AND HORN SHOW, March 17th and 18th. Nez Perce County Fairgrounds Sat. 9-6 and Sun. 9-4, Information, 208-746-5555

my wife got me a Ron Paul for President '08 bumpersticker

Talked to my postmaster, he has never heard of HR1022, he was quite surprised when I told him about the HR. I also put the information regarding HR1022 into the mailbox of our local gun club.

I then sent letters to Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell... Not sure how much help they will be though...

NC Cary/RTP/Raleigh - David Price

+1 to David Price (NRA F-Rated)

Representative Price,

I oppose Bill H.R. 1022. The bill has been brought up in committee to reauthorize the Federal Assault Weapons Ban

I realize that you do not have a strong track record on supporting the 2nd Amendment but I believe that both sides of the aisle can understand that such gun control is entirely ineffective. Even the mainstream press seems to now recognize gun control as a myth in the prevention of crime.

(ABC News piece)

As one of your constituents who firmly believes in the right to keep and bear arms, I would greatly appreciate your support in ensuring that the bill H.R. 1022 does not leave the committee, and if it does come to a vote that you do everything in your power to defeat it.

Thanks,

Living in Texas there isn't a lot I can do to influence my elected officials, all of whom are A rated by the NRA; they are all on board anyway.
I sent them mail just in case but I got responses back indicating they would neve vote for such a thing.

I did however send an extra donation this month to NRA-ILA, GOA, SAF, and JPFO (I'm a member of all but JPFO but I send them money anyway).

My state is on board, so financial support is all I can really do to try to unfluence folks where I don't vote.

This thread really should stay at the top. Today I wrote different letters for some friends who are too lazy to write their own and faxed them to my representative

Can this thread become a sticky or something?

Anyways, I decided to write a form letter and leave it at the range for people to sign and put their address next to. I faxed 20 signed and addressed copies of the letter yesterday to Davis who is on the Judiciary committee. My goal is at least 20 per day

I've been writing my Congressman.

Also, I've been on top of my state officials. A lot of pro-gun and some anti-gun legislation is being proposed for the upcoming legislative session. Thanks to Mike over at http://art1sec11.blogspot.com/ for keeping us Nevadans up to date on this stuff. An excellent resource!

I think a donation to Ron Paul's campaign will soon be in order too.

Went to the show with my 4.5 year old son, he had a blast...

Handed out the flyers I printed up and the workers collecting the entry fee had me set aside what was left of the flyers by the front door.

Overall nothing too exciting there, quite a bit of overpriced stuff... one table had the HR1022 email and was fleecing the joint... Romanian AKM's for $500...

Found one place that will build a DPMS rifle to your specs..

I spoke with the District Director for my Congressman who's serving on the House Judiciary Committee and faxed some more letters to his office

I'm planning to take a group of co-workers to the range this week and let them shoot a couple of EBRs.
