Brass to avoid?

I would think if it's split or budged, avoid it. One thing I would check, does it fit the 9mm holder in your die?

In my experience
-Toss the A-Mercs. Very far away
-CBC, separate and test fit a loaded round or 2, I sometimes need to adjust dies with this.
-S&B, separate - Treat just like CBC

Thanks for the quick responses. I just found some WCC and WMA. Those are Winchester NATO, right? Are those harder to seat primers? They look different from regular Winchester.

From another forum:

"I got an answer from Winchester this morning about the brass.
Those rounds are loaded to the same spec as our standard 9mm Luger. Winchester head stamps for that load can vary from WCC, WMA or 9MM Luger.
Whatever shell cases are available at the time get used to make that product to ensure that there is a constant flow of quality ammunition being produced. This is not uncommon. Best Regards, Winchester Technical Services Dept."

As to S&B - I have reloaded thousands of S&B cases. The primer pockets are a bit tight but the brass is excellent.,

Toss any AMERC and some old TZZ cases. I have no trouble with CBC, S&B, or any of the Winchester varieties.

I have loaded WCC and WIN without any issues. I know WIN has a tighter and dirtier primer hole, but can't remember if WCC is the same. With the tighter primer holes I just use CCI#500 primers since they seat easier. The Federal primer holes are normally not as tight and cleaner, so I normally use my WSP primers on them. Maybe you will find some of the Ammoload brass also which has the step/cup inside. They also load fine, even though some members indicated they have issues when loading lead bullets.

Have fun and be safe.

I set all of the failure to feed rounds aside until the end of the shooting session. Once I noticed they were usually all A-Merc, I stopped messing with them. Your mileage may vary.

As far as S&B and CBC, keep them and use them. I just noticed the same crimp on most brass does not crimp the same on those and I may have to adjust dies. They still work fine.

I do not use a FCD, so I may have issues others do not.

Check the WCC for crimped primers. I just went through a box of WWB and they were all stamped WCC with crimped primer pockets.

The AMERC cases I've encountered have had a variety of problems:
- Case mouths not square and brass having irregular thickness.
- Off-center flash holes
- Irregular primer pockets

I've reloaded AMERC cases just as I have with any other brand, yet to experience any reason not to.

Been reloading since the 1960's, must be the experience????????????????????????????

I don't sort my 9mm brass before loading, except to weed out the few Berdan primed cases. I just load it up and shoot it. My Springfield RO requires a Lee small base sizer but all my other 9's, mostly Hi-Powers, eat everything I load. Since I have bought the RO, I load with the small base die for all my pistols, remainder of the dies are Dillon.

I weed out IMT brass and a lot of the metric stuff. Frankly I get enough Federal, Remington, Winchester and Blazer brass that I tend to sell off my European stuff.

Well, if your experience could fix off center flash holes(badly) case mouths that aren't square and brass that does not have concentric case heads then yes, it's your experience.

My experience is that some AMERC is good and some isn't. I simply inspect each one and toss the junk ones.

Don't toss that A-merc. Save it for those that like it! There are evidently a few around.
Good reloading Catpop

I bought 100 rds of AMERC a long time ago. Didn't notice any of the described defects, but when I reloaded them, about 75% of them split at the neck. I threw away all of them, including the 25% that didn't. :scrutiny:

The only ones that have given me any trouble are S&B. They have tend to have tight primer pockets. The primer usually seats just fine but it will sometimes get a little squished. And once or twice I completely destroyed the primer trying to seat. I still use them. After a couple of loadings they loosen up. Good brass atherwise.

Never came across Amerc.

Every now and then I will find a real oddball headstamp I have never seen before. I just toss them. Same with any that have a crimped primer pocket. The more mainstream brands are plentiful.

I do sort my 9mm brass by headstamp...just makes it easier to develop loads for certain power levels. So I paid a bit of attention to problems folks say they have encountered.

1. IMT cases have a ledge inside to limit bullet seating...works find if you don't seat deeper than the ledge, but it does reduce case volume.
2. CBC cases taper inside for the same reason, so they also have reduced case volume.
3. Ammoland cases have something similar, can't recall at the moment, I only have a few and use them to verify powder drops and seating depths

I hadn't heard the above about FC NT (I have some in with my other FC) and seldom see Amerc
