I was wondering if any of you have used Rand CLP to lubricate black powder firearms? I use ballistol but was wondering if the Rand oil is a good lube to use when storing black powder guns for a longer time. I accidentlly started the post calling it break free clp rather than rand clp

You talking about lubrication for use, or rust protection for storage? For the latter it should be fine. Some say you shouldn't use "modern" petroleum based lubes for BP arms.

Though Ballistol (which I use, along with bore butter) is mineral oil, which is petroleum based.

so.....

I agree with Frontiergander.

Breakfree CLP performs at or near the top of all the corrosion protection tests. I have had good success using it to protect both black powder and smokeless powder guns during storage.

For cleaning, though, I use water or a water dish detergent mix.

Break Free CLP became available in the 1970s and I've been using it ever since on my black powder guns as a rust preventative after using black powder solvents. Keeps the rust away.

Yes it works, but for long term storage I think RIG grease rubbed in is better.

I've been using Break Free CLP for well over 35 years and have never had any rust or any other problems and it protects as well as any of the other brands I've used. Works just as well on my black powder arms too.
