Break-Free or Hoppes #9 ?

I use Hoppe's, CLP Break free, and Lucas gun oil. It seems the #9 works better to get the carbon off of the bead blasted areas of stainless steel gun parts. If I clean bores with clp till the patch comes out clean then use #9 the patch is filthy so clp is used for general light duty cleaning and lubing. Hoppes on the bores and Lucas on metal to metal contact.

For quick & easy gun care, google " ultra bore coat" follow directions for getting down to bare steel by John Barsness. Treat barrel per instructions. Cleaning after treatment is as simple as a few patches with Hoppes on a jag. Lead wipes right out. Same with copper. I shoot 300 - 600 rds /week of mostly lead with some copper. Pistol and rifle. Great product. Buy it , you'll like it.

+1 on both, depending on the gun and the situation and the time of day -- and whether I want that lovely aroma to permeate the house for an extra hour or so. (Every gun room should smell like Hoppe's No. 9.)

Break Free does make a bore solvent , so just buy a bottle of that. I have some, it doesn't work too bad.

I must admit I am a fan of Hoppe's No. 9, but the two you mentioned is a bit different. Hoppe's No. 9 is defiantly designated as a bore cleaner. I think it does a pretty awesome job for the most part in semi-dirty bores. To get that amazing sheen, I use J-B Non-Embedding Bore Compound. I also use Hoppe's BenchRest Copper Remover for the bore. Now to lube, I use what mljdeckard said, Mobil 1 Synthetic or Royal Purple...

Shooter Choice solvent
Break Free
Rem Oil

Windex--for Milsurps

Are pretty much all I keep in the house anymore---each has their own application.

Haven't used Hoppes in at least 10 years--probably a lot longer---its just a poor choice for anything--along with WD40.

If I were limited to one product for everything---it would be Break Free.

For general cleaning: Remington brite Bore
For removing copper Fouling: KG-12
For lubrication: Hoppes Lubricant.

These are all the substances I need for my maintenance routine.
