Bright ring after resizing?

Die not being set right? You set the die to to touch the die holder with the case in the die and shell holder to insure against press stretch and to iliminate free play. What else do you need to do. Oh yeah...If you are custom fitting a .30-30 die to resize the case to fit a liberal chamber you set the die .030" off the shell holder to move the shoulder forward a bit.

.30-30 casesjust do that (the ring). I don't have a ring on my .30-06 cases after resizing them or my other bottle neck cases. Just .30-30...

qajaq - I agree, this thread was useful even if I was a little over sensitive to the ring.

Eb1 - don't know if it would show up or not on camera... the brass looks new except for the little ring. I see it, but it disappears at the right angles.

JWR - I suspect that my chamber may be a little large at the base of the bullet. There is a noticeable increase in resistance when I size right about the same time I hit where this ring is. My press doesn't have compound leverage, so any change in resistance is noted. I'll be keeping an eye on the brass, but now I have a better idea what I am looking for/at.

Palehorse - some of my brass was fireformed in a different chamber. I have considered getting a neck sizing die, but for now I'll go with what I have. You can't beat free.

I have seen similiar brass markings and the cause at that time was too much case lube. Try cleaning your die set, then monitoring the lube application.
